New posts/articles?

First, the quick poll for the 2nd WoT anniversary results - the question was:

In the 2nd anniversary gay-rage, some European flags (notably the scandinavian ones) are missing. How do you feel about it?

Well, looks like around 50 percent people don't give a crap (coincidence: 50 percent people who read this blog are Americans or Russians :) ), 23 percent people think it's because silly Soviets can't tell one country from another anyway, 12 percent think WG is intentionally trolling and 16 percent think it doesn't matter because it's not like we can tell a difference between Russia and Belarus. Oh well :)

Now, on to this post's topic.

You might have noticed FTR now has several authors with more perhaps incoming. I tried to pick people according to their specialisation and availability, so we have a German tank guys, American tank guy (American tanks is something I know very little about in fact) and Soviet tank guy, with a British tank guy on the way (you could have seen the Commonwealth article today from him - yea, the typos will improve, no worries).

That sort of leaves me the possibility to write whatever I feel like, with various topics available. So, a question for you (obviously only for those who read something else than the translations): what articles and topics would you like me to cover?

Obviously, there is no need to mention the translations and leaks. Translations won't stop and the leaks... well, as long as there is something to leak, those won't stop either. So, apart from that, I have several ideas:

  • more Czechoslovak tech articles (for example: amphibious tanks, various CZ T-54/T-55 versions, various light tanks etc.)
  • WW1 tanks (various obscure beasts, their history, WW1 tanks in Russian civil war)
  • Improvised tanks (Odessa, Bob Semple, Kubus and many others)
  • Special tanks (Engineer vehicles, ARV's)
  • Other nations tanks (Argentine, Ecuador, Africa, Afghanistan... yes, they actually had tanks)
  • Main nations obscure prototypes, that might make it to the game (various Soviet Objects, etc.)
  • "Freedom tanks" (armored vehicles, used by citizens of the eastern bloc to forcefully cross the borders despite army/police resistance)
Or something totally else? Please let me know. As I mentioned however, I will leave German vehicles to Zarax and Thor, American to Priory_of_Sion and Soviet generally to Ensign Expendable, unless there is a specific vehicle you'd like to write about.

I made a special poll for this, so please vote.

  1. It's too hard to choose. If you have time and enough data, you should make at least one post per ideas.

  3. Ive heard about tanks the SS were planning to build independently of the Heer, could have been wrong. Improvised armour is always fun! The Bob Semple is extremely funny to look at, as well as historically significant.

    1. What do you want to know? Yes, Doyle and Spielberger confirm there was a Sturmgeschütz E-100 project, but noone knows how it looked (drawings didnt survive the war), it had a casemate though and was supposed to be armed with a 150mm or 170mm gun. It was designed for a while, but it was stopped by Hitler when he stopped all the superheavy tank research.

It's good to keep variety, just continue posting 1 or 2 articles a day from various subjects and it will be fine.

    1. I have to start prioritizing. Even with WoT being my only real hobby, I usually write such articles in the evening and publish them the next day. This blog is taking way too much time every day, I doubt I can keep up one article per day, it's too much. That's one of the reasons I asked for the guys to help me out with the interesting stuff. The only thing from me to come daily is the translation, that usually takes like 30 mins to one hour to do.

  11. What about "Reimaged Tech Trees" - opinons about various branches like in http://ftr-wot.blogspot.cz/2013/04/fake-american-vehicles.html ? For example - why vehicle X should/shouldn't be on tier Y or branch Z etc.

  12. Hey Frank Davis or Silentstalker :)
I am reading constantly your blog ,trying to be up-to-date with the WG plans. I found some articles really useful! And also the patience you have to translate each one is remarkable.

To be on-topic,WG should rethink the game for a moment.Where is it going? They add tanks like madmen and leave the gameplay by chance. The bugs and the glitches that can be found everywhere are getting bigger and are increasing day by day.

I don't understand their policy and everytime I read your topics, I see that they always have a kind of hostile attitude when asked like "when it's done it's done" or ironic replies.

Players are playing and paying.(at least a part of them)They attract new players, but some of the old ones are either getting bored, either desperate because a good amount of time the game is unplayable. Noobs are ruining the last piece of teamwork...and good time.

Keep up the good work :) I am also trying to build my blog. You check it out if you want,it's not mandatory :D http://insanityisbliss20.blogspot.ro/

  16. I found silly on European server to have flags from Argentina, Brazil, USA, Mexico, instead of adding other European flags! yeah sure they added Poland, what is really a joke, is the Turkish flag as we all know there is a negative history between some european nations and turks!
I complained on the Forum of course, comment deleted and warned!

    this is the deleted part

I mean seriously? Turkish flag? What European wants a Turkish flag in their garage?
That is like adding insult to injury!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It was right choice to give you warning and delete your post, you racist. There are some turkish players in the game and they have right to have their flag amoung others.

The problem with the gayrage (which you obviously do not realize) is that there are not ALL flags of countries that play WoT.

  19. Dear SilentStalker,
I read your blog almost exclusively for the news and the
    Q/A translations.
As of late it is getting more difficult to get to the interesting
content because of the many new articles.

Would it be possible to make a separate section either for the
    articles or the news/Q&A?

Optionally how about collapsing the articles and leaving only
the headline and some introduction, so that if interested, the
    visitor can expand the article.
I.m.h.o. this would add to the clearness of the blog.

    Regards,
    Toaster

  21. Well, I voted for prototypes of existing nations, but I will read almost everything you put in this blog. But those prototypes are most interesting ones. After existing tanks of course. Some articles about less known prototypes which already are in game, that would be awesome.

  22. I ve red an article about a variant of the Leopard 2. Specified I mean this special variant should be able to withstand a frontal direct hit of an 120mm smoothborre gun. It was developed by mercedes in the late eightys or early ninetys. It would be interesting to hear something about this one.

  28. Please separate the Q&A from the articles. I'm mostly interested in Q&A/news and that's why I come here, like most people (who don't even bother to comment, unlike article lovers) since that's how this blog started. Just make a tab up top with the articles, because right now there's a mess with everything put in one huge bag. So please do it out of respect for people like me and those who started visiting this blog for what it was from the beginning, because most viewers don't even bother to post a comment with their opinion let alone vote in polls, and those who love history and articles try to look like a majority. Just to sort this mess out.

    1. Well, you don't have to scroll or anything - on the right side you have the menu for each day, just select the article with that day's date in the title and you'll get to that day's translation. No big deal.

  29. I remember an article by the chieftain (NA) talking about a brazilian 1960s MBT, with similar characteristics to its peers (can't remember anything else). I'd personally love to see more articles about latin-american tanks and tank projects. I really loved the 38 tank in peru that lasted so much even in the inclemencies of the Andes.

    1. I'm also a great fan of those "mixed tanks" that combine parts from two tanks (usually the hull from one and the turret/gun from another one) like the M50 Supersherman, The egyptian M4A4 with FL-10 gun, the Patagon, etc. so if you have enough info about them I'd love to see a post about those tanks

    2. Looking for info on Patagon, that one looks interesting, could even make it to WoT eventually.

  31. If it comes to me I'm interested only and strictly in WoT related news like Q&A, leaks, pics and direct discussion related to WG and their games. Those tank stories and other stuff you added recely is imho not needed. If I need such info there are much better websites with such things. So I and most of my friends simply skip those news, and only wait and read WoT related articles. I also dont consider any speculations of "what would be if we replace this tank with something else".

  32. I'm Dutch and I really don't get the problem with the flags (or better some not being in there) or actually the garage to be honest.
I don't think the garage is that bad at all, also wtf with the gay-mention?

  33. Articles on some historical tank battles/tactics would be cool. To me it's not just the machines, rather what you do with them that makes them interesting :)
