0.8.6 test impressions

Hey everyone,

it's kinda pointless to post here the test server vehicle stats (the data are out on various places anyway), so instead a few impressions for those, who don't play on test server and don't intend to. Please, feel free to comment, whether you agree with me or not. Keep in mind that these are subjective feelings of mine, not facts.

The comments are written from the POV of a non-arty player, who prefers mediums and heavies (tested vehicles: T110E5, Maus, Panzer IV)

- probably the most important part of the patch: the arties. While it's hard to say how many arties will be "left" on public server, I have a really bad feeling that this patch didn't fix the old arty issues (but created new ones). In other words, there are a LOT of arties around on top tiers. Now, arty has a chance to be top vehicle of the team (for some reason it happens very often, but maybe it was my bad luck).

- my impression is that in hightier (T9-T10) battles, arties weren't nerfed too much when it comes their ability to make heavy tank's day very very miserable. I assume that the accuracy nerf somehow helped the fast medium vehicles such as the Batchat or Leopard, but subjectively, T110 doesn't have its job any easier and despite increased durability from the new heavy spall liner (subjectively, it doesn't work at all, because it doesn't help with the real arty problem - module damage and chain detracks, maybe the damage recieved is better, but I didn't spot that really). I can imagine even harder accuracy nerfs for toptier arties in the future - as I said, very little changed. Either way, top artillery does influence the battle perhaps more than it should. If your team has arty retards and the other team doesn't, you WILL lose.

- speaking of the new XL spall liner, it's not very effective. Maus still gets pounded to dust.

- midtier arties (from the POV of medium/heavy player) feel a bit OP actually due to their limited MM spread. I had several oneshots done on my Panzer IV. On mid tiers, slow = dead. I can imagine this will frustrate new players heavily. But maybe it's the fact they are being tested, so there are so many.

- armor buff - it works. Spaced armor now eats HEAT like candy. This is especially visible on E-100 and Maus - earlier, you could load up gold and shoot it wherever, now sides will eat it and front will ding. If we count out arty, Maus is now a pretty awesome tank to drive. IS-6 is a total monster now, it dings like hell at eats HEAT shells too, IS-7 feels buffed too this way, T110 - no buff, feels even more fragile than usual. As for tanks with heavily sloped frontal armor (Chinese especially...) - remember the pre-nerf T-54 frontal armor? Yea...

- accuracy buff - works. Guns are more accurate now. This is bad news for tanks with glaring weakspots (again, T110 with its tumor turret, but also KV-5), they do get hit more often. Sniping on longer distances is a joy, shells fly where they are supposed to (funnily enough, it feels easier to derp-snipe with KV-2 too, which probably wasn't an intended consequence)

  2. Test just started and i think they nerf arty more and they should. I like playing arty but this is beyond fun game as arty player or tank driver.

    1. I think that, than it is time for you to stop playing arty... The arty can still hit, still dmg, and as SS said, they do stupid detrack, crew and module dmg. And it can still shoot you while not having direct sight on you, and this bothers me the most...

      In this case, a GW Tiger P with 200 mm frontal armor will be my favourite in tier 8. Imagine this top tank.

    5. GW Tiger P has 100mm of frontal armor! But no I didn't mean to lead charges, but it is dumb that it can do massive HP damage and crew/module dmg while he is totally safe in the end of the map. They should flatten the trajectory so at least you could hide behind smaller hills or you shouldn't totally hug houses in order to be totally safe... (Oh I know, "they aren't accurate and have huge reload" but I just can't give a damn about it, as pretty often one shot (on higher tiers) is mostly the end of the game...

  3. i dont think we can really judge if arty have been fixed on test, more then half the arty you see probably aren't even arty players since you just buy pretty much any tank in game

  4. As I noticed arty is hit pretty hard. I drove quite a few battle with Leo, they can't hit me for shit. And in battle end results there is rarely any high tier arty at 3k damage mark. Usually they do about 1-2k damage, which if you think about it is pathetic.
    Guns are more accurate and heat now dings and fails as a regular round.

    1. That's just due to the fast paced action of the test server. In battles on the live server than last around 8 minutes and people are camping, they'll be dealing lots more damage.

  5. My opinion on arty slightly differs. I can imagine that it works because you have a much harder time to hit something on the move (my impression), while you still be able to hit something stationary. So their is an anti-camper-function as intended but you get much less ninja sniper oneshots while on the move. So a highly mobile gameplay gives you more protection from the arty. It might be not a great improvment for a Maus or some sluggish tanks but still is an improvement.
    As for the arty-parties, I will wait until the live server comes up to give a judgement. Right now there are too much testing only arties.
    I think most noobs. only playing arty because it is the only way to deal some damage for them, will quit playing arty so this will drag players away from it. Also the increase on high tier tanks might get some players into high tier again.

    Long read short, it MIGHT work. We'll see...

"So a highly mobile gameplay gives you more protection from the arty" It would give you more protection, if you shouldn't need to shoot at all, because you have to stop to have a good shot, and with 4-5 arties the chances that a huge HE shell will splash you is pretty high, and than you don't have tracks, and in the next second the other arty shoot you too and you are dead. For me the whole arty concept is stupid

    2. Many fast tanks have guns with good RoF that allow you to reliably shoot while moving, even on higher tiers. So arty are still a bane for slow and large heavy tanks as always been planned, but now they're even less effective against fast lights and mediums.

  7. How is T110E5 more fragile? havent you said sloped armor gets better in 8.6? also does E-75 sloped front benefit in anyway?

    1. People don't hit frontal sloped armor, they aim at the tumor, which gets hit more often (probably due to the accuracy buff). Some of the hits I recieved were ridiculous (tumor hit over whole Malinovka etc)

I played the test with mostly Chinese tanks, indeed, their armor is much more effective now and yes, accuracy buff made battle distance increase, a WZ 111's 130mm top gun with 0,4 accuracy can comfortably snipe from draw distance limit and shoot weak spots from mid range with frontal armor being incredibly improved against HEAT which is abundant on test server. Now Chinese heavies ding HEAT pretty easy from tier VIII up. Although HEAT is still stronger ammo than APCR

  9. I played arty in the past, and still do for clan related TCs and such, i had the chance to try some of the iconic ones.

    And i can't say anything but what pretty much all arty players kept repeating before this test. if WG want to rebalance them, they need to reduce the damage and HE penetration.

    If they want to make it even more frustrating to play arty instead, they are doing very well, because right now it's even more annoying then before.

    While exp and credits increase for them is good, the change of accuracy as soon as you move by a centimeter or so your mouse while aiming is really really too much. Regardless, arties with enough splash will do their job nicely as usual, but their self defence is pretty much 0 unless someone is stupid enough to walk right in front of them.

    What i see suffering the most tho are the arties that back then had the most accuracy (which means less splash as well). S-51 is overnerfed, what they should have done was removing that gun and getting in a middle one, similar to the old gw panther one.

    Accuracy changes for tanks feels really good instead.

  10. Few days ago i started playing arty on live server exclusively (fed up with all the arty bullshit, before this i only tried arty when i started playing the game). So me, non-arty player did 60+ games in elite amx 13f3 or whatever it is called with 2 skill crew and all possible modules. The game didnt piss me off as playing anything tier 8+ did and i had fun just rolling anything supporting my chin with the left hand and playing with the right.

    Played a dozen games in the same arty but with crew without any skills on the test server. There is no nerf guys, sure it reloads 7 seconds longer, but the accuracy is the same, perheaps even better while facing not t7-8 tanks but t5-7 tanks. This patch is the biggest bullshit ever, if anything it made t3-9 arty extremely overpowered and the increased flight time of shells is barely noticable. And what i find even more hilarious is that certain T10 arty (yep, object) is more accurate than t6 arty, aims significantly faster than it, has much smaller dispersion while moving/after shot and reloads only 3 seconds longer while doing over twice the damage.

    So what do i think? They should already rename the game to "world of arty" now that not only t9-10 tanks are unplayable bacause of the plague that arty is.

    7. Tier V arty is stupidly easy to play on the regular server, especially with a well trained crew. The enemy doesn't have to be retarded, but most don't have near the crew skills this 'tester' had. What he really found out is the same thing as any seal clubber knows, go to low tiers with a solid crew, all the good modules, complex equipment and consumables. You will score high every time.

      Many of the enemy arty don't have the range to hit across the map so CB is very rare. Because you don't have to worry about CB, you can sit back in the corner and play one handed.

  11. I think that the arty rebalance has gone to the wrong direction.
    WG said they want to reduce randomization but arty feels a lot more random than before.
    Best thing about the arty rebalance is imho the reduced shell velocity.
    But if you hit the target you can still pen it with HE rounds (witch was for me all time the most anoing thing about arty).
    When i was in WGs place, I would have gone for reduced alpha damage and penetration for arty (aditional to the shell flighttime increase) but not for the higher aim and reload time.
    This way you would achieve reduced probability to hit fast moving targets, with still an good probability to hit stationary targets and reduced damage to solw and heavyly armored tanks.
    And if this wouldn't be enought of a nerf, I would try to REDUCE aimtime, but therefor INCREASE dispersion on gun traverse to make it even harder to hit moving targets.

  12. One thing I think they should do is slightly buff the health of all tracks, to help with the detracking by artillery.

    Also, I knew buying the KV-2 back was a grand idea. Having it pimped out with a rammer, gun layer, vents, and a crew with 4 skills which include BiA, it's gonna be awesome to derpsnipe again, better than ever before :D

    The very high potential damage and splash are other areas they should fix.

  14. 30% spall liner reduce but form let say 1800 you still take 1260 when shell pens you so .. and i am not taking about how many modules cant be take out , last i remember Storm say that in future spall liner will help whit module dmg but WHEN ... i have never used spall liner its usless now , its usless on 8.6 ... imagine 5 arty in enemy team and your mous is spoted all 5 guns shoot you even if you take 700dmg still you are dead... still i am seling most of my artys .... i almost forgor spall liner can help vs FV215B(183) HESH now this is nice but vs arty .. well

    1. Spall liner only helps when the shell does not pen, on penetrations the shell does full damage.

  15. I used to play my OBJ261 a lot and in CW and have completed every arty line. I sold it along with all my other arty when I realized I liked the faster pace of mediums. I have not played an arty since before any of the nerfs. I played one game on test to try it out last night.

    While I can see the difference between what I remember and now, I didn't find it that difficult to make an impact on the match I was in. I one shotted 3 tanks and damaged a few others. I can see the difference in reticle bloom and accuracy and responsiveness but only had to execute a little more patience to compensate.

    1. Which in itself is probably enough to phase out a fair number of arty players (but not myself) as the slow pace of arty becoming slower killed them for many. Which I don't really have an opinion on, myself.

  18. What really bothers me is the new camouflage system,it`s ridiculous.
    I actually crashed into a tank before I saw it,I was driving downhill in a Leo 1 and I crashed in a Russian TD before I spotted it.
    It's really bad,it happened several times to be on the same street with a huge tier 10 heavy and I wasn't able to spot it before I was just in front of him.

    2. same here for me!! was trying out IS-6 and was searching for enemy arty which i saw it hid behind a small hill with a bush in front of it. I peek around that land bump, clearly seeing through the bush, nothing no sign of arty. 3seconds later arty appears 5m in front of me and BAM! im dead!

  19. So far I've played 6 arties, mostly high-tier arty. And so far, Im really disappointed. I hoped that finally artys will get nerfed accuracy. This didnt happed. Actually Im hitting much more often then on normal server, the only thing thats get nerfed is reaload time.

  20. Initial impressions of the SU-26 with the top gun - It has much longer range - 1.7x to 2.0x - shallower trajectory with less chance of plunging fire except near max range. It carries many more shells and the time to target seems similar to the old top gun. I will take a while to get used to leading moving targets and the splash is less. Buffs and nurfs just made it a different SPG. With the limited range of the old top gun you needed to position closer to the action to be most effective and this helped accuracy and made the play fun. The increased range, the lack of damage at shallow angles and overall venerability to attack will change the game play for it completely.

    I have yet to play anything like a balanced game so thats all I can say for the moment.

  23. Spotting system is wrong, on Ruinberg in the middle section of the middle street there is a small bush, I got hit from there 3x from a VK3001P and only saw it when a teammate got within 50m of him. I was about 60m from him and he could shoot all he wanted without me seeing him!

  24. Arty haters contradicting themselves as usual. They play a few matches in a lowtier arty and think they know what it's like. Ever thought how fun it is to be able to shoot only 5 times in an entire match, and then missing 3 times?

    Arties were nerfed. period.
    Aim time, dispersion, reload, shell flying time. At the same time high tier heavies were buffed (armor, spall liners, accuracy), and the same arties still face the same tanks.

    So how can the 'plague' have gotten worse? L2P.

    1. Not all arty haters had only low tier arty. And for a heavy guy it doesn't matter at all how many can you shoot, or how many missed, he only cares about that 1 shot 1000 dmg (approx.) and 2-3 crewmember death he had.

    3. Except JPE100 or FV215b 183 can't shoot you from the other side of the map with a satellite view, over cover and with huge splash. And there is a chance to bounce their shells.

  25. I have tested T92 on 8.4, 8.5 and now 8.6 test.

    The reason in general why arty does low damage on test server is because games are short - not much camping. I manage to fire 4-5 shots, scoring 2 hits = 2k dmg
    Reload and aim time in general are quite nerfed. Comparing T92 accuracy on 8.5 and current 8.6 is hard, difference in aiming circles is HUGE but you will still get a ~40% hit rate.
    Premium HE shells - I tried them first on 8.4 test server - you had no need for aiming (11-13m efective splash), with 8.5 splash reducing you had 7-9m effective splash.
    On 8.5 live T92 has only 3-5 meters effective splash with normal ammo, and when you combine that with increased aiming circle - arty becomes only usefull with premium shells.
    As arty gameplay goes on live server heavy tanks will be the targets - well, camping heavy's, and almost everyone is camping on live server in high tier battles so arty won't be useless.
    You don't have to always be on the move, but always move with your meds - just back and forward, little to the side, be unpredictable and you will reduce arty hits by more than 50% , and TD's will have a hard time tracking you. It may look silly but it works.

    I have no german tanks in my garage but I wanted to try E100 on test server, It's amazing. Eats heat like crazy and spall liner helps with fv183 hesh. First battle with E100 7k dmg ,11k potential dmg recived - e100, 121, m48 were lobbing heat at me WITH NOT ONE PEN - I shot enemy e100 directly on side armor with heat - dinged after it penned spaced armor. I was also amazed that 0.4 on e100 does not look like 0.4 acc on is7, it's better.

    Only thing I don't like on test server are invisible medium tanks spoting and sniping. I wouldn't mind them spotting me and sniping if I could see them but even my t110 with optics cannot spot meds that are spotting and sniping on 350-400 meters.

    ie xp to next tier, costs of new tiered arties etc.

    I need to know what to sell now and what to buy/free xp or stop playing to avoid wasting xp/cred/time

    Need to know if I want to free xp to e100 or waste some xp on the SU GE tier 7 upgrades to t9

While leading the target the aimcircle is a lot larger than in 8.5 and the shell is traveling noticable longer. Artillery performance at high tiers will drop.

    The only players who will still suffer from artillery are the slow tanks out of cover and the idiots standing still without cover.

    This based on an evening playing the 261 and bat.chat 155 58 and 155 55 on the testserver.

  30. What i would like to see is removing tier 9 and 10 arties, unnerfing rest of the arties a bit and putting them 2 tiers higher.
    That way we would get rid of unhistorical arty like GWE and you can fill lower tiers quite easily as there was lot of SPGs with that kind of performce. Other thing that this would achieve is lower the damage done by these arties on hit in higher tiers.
    I am completely ok with my GW Panther in t10 battles and that way it could still retain some aim speed or rof and be fun to play....

    2: What about T-54 frontal hull armor, is it still as bouncy, more bouncy or less bouncy in 0.8.6 ?

  33. Top tier arty is not really a problem in reasonable numbers (up to 3). It never was, in regards to heavy tanks. The decreased accuracy versus moving targets basically fixed everything that was wrong in this area.
    Tier 8 arty still gets tier 10 arty guns though. GW tiger for example should only get the 17cm as top gun, and use the GWP 15cm as stock gun.

    This kinda goes for every vehicle class and its how the game works. You're basically saying "I still want to win even if the other guys are better".

    It doesn't hurt either. It's a free buff.

    This is just the test server being the test server and people trying the new stuff as opposed to the old stuff. Makes sense, doesn't it?

    THAT's only logical...with the accuracy nerf+ shell flight time nerf, you can't hit shit if it is moving with more than 1km/h...so the consequence: focus on mostly standing targets, like TD's and Heavys (I focus heavys now, you can still one shot meds on higher tiers, but it's wasted time to try, thx to accuracy nerf...)

    oh and of course there are "high tier" artys, like tier 10 artys, but it's just a wrong appearance, cause they are still like tier 8artys, only the number changed :)

    Also they knew since CBT that arty is too powerfull YET they keep adding more and more.... is this game made for chimps ?

    1. Because every significant change benefit Red Star's :) Don't think they don't know what are they doing. Thery are perfectly aware of the changes and they are working as intended :) My first battle with Ob704 on test server i sniped two shots one after another at 560m distance like a boss.   38. Possibly one the tanks to benefit the most in this patch is the FV215b. Suddenly it bounces a lot if angled properly and still has the insane gun. And, it has the 2500hp that it was given a couple of patches ago to account for its poor armour.

    I might just have to consider this tank now.

  39. I really have nothing at all against current arty at T10. If im hit it's mostly my own fault.

    All i wanted was a FUCKING 3arties cap. But WG went ahead and nerfed it. Now we will have players who whine about arty parties and arty players who whine about arty getting nerfed.

    Way to go WG!

  40. I didn't really "Feel" the nerfs ... I played 6 of the tier 9 and 10 arties and only missed a shot twice on the bat chat 155/58 which has an absolutely atrocious reload time (1:19 last I checked).

    Other than that, just to clarify, the tank listings are in alphabetical order to the tank, so in a tier 10 battle a Bat chat 155/58 will always get top billing on the team list - doesn't mean it's the strongest tank.

  41. I played a lot battles today on the test server in the top tier and I think there wasn't too much arty. (Or maybe I was just lucky)
    The armor buff works really good. It makes the game more challenging to play in the high tiers.
    As an arty (and everything) player I think the arty nerf is enough. (maybe a bit too much) Arties are just as accurate as before but now their reload time/aim time/aim spread/mobility is nerfed. I think this makes the arties not so threatening.
    The new map is also looks good.

    pre-nerf T-54 frontal armor? It always had 120 mm armor. Or did I missed something?

  42. I get the impression that so-called arty nerf is back-firing:

    - high tiers may be the only ones to profit since those games were arty infested anyway and now reloads are longer.

    - mid tier games will get worse because powerful arties now see lower tier enemy tanks. A KV-1 can now meet a S-51. Welcome to oneshot hell.

    - low tier: Things should stay the same. Tanks are small and mostly fast thus hard to hit. Longer reload makes up for MM changes.

    In some of my test games, arty was tough to play/I was unlucky. This mostly happened with lower tier arties. But the higher tier arties were still murderous. Played a 8 vs 8 game in a S-51 with mostly tier VII tanks. Result: almost 3000 hp damage. A S-51 as top tier is just silly.

Well, having played artillery from tier IV-VIII on a number of battles (15+ each) on the test server now, I can assure you that artilleries are not able to deal any crew or module damage to worry about. Even with gold HE you will just detracked someone. No difference if it is due to splash damage or a direct hit. Of all hits so far, the only module damage I managed to cause was a fire on a Tortoise with the TigerP arty with a gold HE round(Tiger arty+ E100 arty have the same gun)
