Storm on 0.8.6 test

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/201983.html

On the developer blog, Storm asked the Russian players, how they like the 0.8.6 test. Here's an excerpt from Storm's comments under the article.

- apparently, the new dynamic camera works like it should, players were complaining about it getting "stuck" behind object, players complain about it a lot (SS: funny, I didn't have any such problems - do any of you?)
- dynamic camera  moving after each shot is being discussed within WG, apparently it's an atmospheric decision
- combat tasks within the game will come, but later (whatever that is)
- LeFH French premium arty will possibly be removed from the shop
- when HEAT ricochets and hits something else after the ricochet, it will penetrate as usual
- Storm states that KV-5 will be especially tough in 0.8.6
- apparently, the idea of tank spotting being tied to how many spotting points are visible won't happen - it would complicate already hard-to-understand mechanics even further
- the graphic bug where something caused violet rectangles to appear will be fixed in next test round:

Well, that's it. There are like 700 player comments at this moment and most of them consist of some serious whining - Storm doesn't answer on those.

Just a thought: I don't blame Storm and SerB trolling and being rude anymore. Look what some Russian players are writing to them (and this is by far not the only rude comment):

Translation: Why the fuck didn't you nerf the laser HEAT shells on tier 10 TD's? Fucking 450mm! HEATs continue to punch thru the fucking Maus! (literally: sow thru the fucking Maus like thru a piece of rag)

Translation: Misha, go fuck yourself

Just give the dynamic camera and the gun "recoil" movement (vehicle virabrations in the 8.5 settings) separate options in the settings.

    1. Yes this recoil rocking of the camera is making me dizzy. The rest is fine by me but this should be deselectable or at least scaleable.

    2. You can turn Dynamic camera off in Settings-Game then deselct it.
The recoil is a bt ott, wonder if there is a way to bind it to a hotkey?

    7. I guess it has spaced armor here and there which benefits from the gold ammo nerf.

SilentStalker basicaly wrote that Storm had said that because of players' whinning about KV-5 and the fact that it's gun can't penetrate organic fertilizer (a.k.a. sh*t), it would turn into an inpenetrable fortress and would benefit greatly from the penetration changes. Silent added that the KV-5's focus would shift from DPS to armor.
Then they discussed about the KV-5's gold ammo, normalisation nerf, gaussian distribution change (accuracy buff) and the things that would change for KV-5...
      I hope I haven't messed it up...

  3. The new dynamic camera is annoying sometimes, like when I'm driving my tank it keeps jumping forwards-backwards a little, and the feel of the tank's speed is almost completely gone.

    1. What is exactly effect of the "dynamic camera"?

      Delete
    2. The camera now reacts to the movement of the tank, if someone shoots your tank, or the ground near you, the camera will shake, and in sniper view if your tank goes over railroads the camera stays on target, don't jumps around and when you are shooting the recoil will be shown with the camera, but your aim will stay in one place, only it will be bigger, just like when you turn off the camera shaking in 0.8.5.

      Delete
  4. the dynamic camera is kinda pointless the way it is now: it's supposed to remove vibrations and does so when driving, but when shooting/getting hit it makes it 10 times worse... so now we have to choose when we want vibration and when not, but can't turn it off completely? i hope they fix this vibration thing... it's horribly confusing and annoying.

and maybe if he'd stop trolling and l2gamedesign he would get better responses... his answers and his unfriendly manners are completly unqualified for such a job.

    2. Do you lot even realize the amount of crap that man has to go through from random "retards" and "know-it-alls" from the Internet? And how little appreciation these guys feel for the quite hard work they put up. Because flaws or not, problems or not, this is a really good game, otherwise we wouldn't f***ing be here arguing about it. And they too deserve some love and understanding. So if you don't like it, use your own advice, l2gamedesign and go make it better.

  5. What do they say about the arties? I learnt but forgot russian completely. I don't experience any nerf from the tanks point of view. Arties can do everything just little slower and actually this is all but still these are lethal weapons for the same tier or even tier+1.

    1. It's really mixed up - some complain arties are nerfed too much, some that they are nerfed not enough

      Delete
    2. In think what it is is the indivigual arty. Some of them work well as they are in 8.6 and others are so messed up to be nearly useless.

Take the new German T2 arty.
27s reload with Food rammer and gun laying. 75% crew.
Yah it can do 400 damage if it hits something which it can. And its range is very nice at 780+ meters.
But the 27s reload time makes it uselss.

M41 is 24s with 75% crew and all of the goodies and is usefull still.

GW T with the 17cm is also at about 21-24s. But with the 21cm it just becomes bad.

      Delete
    3. Its because the nerfs aren't what arty haters wanted so they aren't nerfed properly.

OTOH arty players find the nerfs make them painful to play so they're nerfed too much.

      Worst of both worlds.

      Delete
    4. Draco

You always think that there are arty haters but the hate is not the good word. It is not hate but a desire for a playable game in high tiers. You probably don't play in high tier with heavy tank and therefore you don't know what you call as hate is simply the desire for an enjoyable play. What is going on in high tiers due to the number of big arties in every game is simply reached the tolerance level of many players who prefer heavy tanks.

      Delete
    5. what I don't understand about the arty nerfs is that the devs nerfed everything except the max. damage. players were complaining that they got oneshotted in a tier X tank, and that the danger of getting a 1000+ damage hit from an arty encouraged camping rather than discouraging it.
so why not leave every value as it was in 0.8.5 but strongly decrease the max. damage? I'm sure a TD would be okay with getting a 400 dmg hit from an arty while being able to fire an 800 dmg hit on an enemy tank. but at the risk of getting oneshotted... of course you would camp your ass off until all enemy arties are dead.
      - 2 cents from an arty player who has oneshotted multiple tier X tanks and thinks this is absolutely ridiculous

    1. I think it's a new reward mechanism. Basically, some (and it's unclear how many, how often etc.) battles will have sort of mini-quests - if you do this and that (and I have no idea what, but stuff like "do over 3k damage" I assume), you get extra rewards.

200% credits and experience, 500 gold and a tier 2 premium tank as a reward for doing 1000 damage in a tier 10 tank?

Got to be testing the rewards.

    5. I guess this is related to summer event somehow. I mean it is very cryptic on the WOT homepage but if they put special missions and such awards in the game then it will be just more interesting. I was thinking that WG should put mini missions in the games. Ok, maybe not in every game but daily once or few times for every players. I mean for example to destroy a box somewhere in a distant random place of the map for 1-2000 credits or cut down a specific tree. Simple tasks actually but it could make the game much more interesting (few would always rush there from both sides) and it should not be difficult to develop. I always enjoy the sub-missions since these just make it more interesting.

Those mini quests you describe will only encourage even more retarded behaviour.

  7. I'm not sure how they figure that multi-point spotting would be less intuitive. Surely it's more logical for a tank to be harder to spot if only a little bit of it is showing? At present you're as likely to be seen if you entire tank is in the open as you are if just the top of your turret is showing, that doesn't make much sense.

Different opinions on what's "intuitive", I guess...

    ReplyDelete
  8. "- apparently, the idea of tank spotting being tied to how many spotting points are visible won't happen - it would complicate already hard-to-understand mechanics even further"

I don't see why it would be hard to understand. It's the current system that is hard to understand as most new players will assume that some bush cover would at least give some advantage. All players doesn't have to understand the mechanics anyway, beyond that bushes are good for not being noticed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly this.

Let's be honest here. Most of the player base do not understand any of the game mechanics and then there is only a very small group among them who are willing to learn and understand stuff.

These who are interested will understand. For these who are not interested it would become just slightly more intuitive.

Also, I'm sick of WG patronising players. We don't have BASIC info (like gun depression or tracks' performance on the different grounds, shell velocity or modules hit points or camo values) about tanks in our garages. We don't have more detailed after battle stats (like list of critical damages to enemy. Ect ect. All that because WG assumes it would overwhelm the players. They would get lost in the info and, I don't know, they would panic or something? Ffs! Again, these who want the info will make use of it. These too thick to understand can go fuck themselves and carry on salivating over their keyboards and keep pressing "battle" button, defeat after defeat.

      Delete
    2. What WG refuse to see is that this approach to players actually makes players confused. When i remember the lengths of getting myself informed about how exactly camo system works... man.

Every person on Earth have a natural ability to learn new things and every little kid is quite passionate about it too. Its the social(religious) dogma, prejudice and generalization that ultimately kills open-mindednessa and any healthy critical thinking in people...

What i am trying to say is you dont have to force the info down players throats, just make it available so they can explore it on their own. And slowly, bit by bit, you will help them advance...
Without any info whatsoever you can legitimately think that this game is complete rng(just a little bit:D) and since you cant influence what teammates you get there is no point in even trying(i have been there and it leads only to grinding through afking, suiciding and so on...)

    4. @Dead_Skin_Mask

Yes, I have seen it. It's a welcome change. However it was reasoned that the amount of info in after battle report that we have now was "trimmed" in a way not to overwhelm the players with too much data.
I remember reading that in one of the dev answers here on FTR.

  12. - in garage, when selecting tanks, I have to wait 5-10 seconds for "module update" or some "blabla update".
    - in arty view when moving around the camera the enemy tanks appear after a while, if they apear at all.
    - in arty view tanks are dissapearing from the map, this happened on widepark witch is 600x600 so I definatelly have enough radio range.
    - regarding the arty nerf : my 261 feels just the same, only the reload time is worse.

    1. - Gun becomes more accurate so you can aim for weakspots. So can everybody else though.
      - HEAT mechanics will change and make the spaced armor more effective. It is also more expensive.
      - APCR normalisation is reduced so with some angle, KV-5 can bounce more
      - you can mount the new XL spall liner that has nominally more effectiveness against HE
      - arty nerf could indirectly buff the KV-5 and all the other big, slow monsters

It will benefit from this as much as the Maus will, or any other superheavy tank, nothing especially for it.
