British arty preview

Source: TheJoves' video

A short preview of British arty, that is somewhat confirmed to come in 8.7 (but it's also possible they will postpone it to 8.8, nothing is confirmed totally).

Tier 2 unknown arty (SS: I think it's Universal Gun Carrier - a light howitzer on Universal Carrier chassis)

- the blogger speculates that it might have good horizontal arc and if I understood this correctly, he said that the whole British arty branch will be characterized by good traverse angles

- It's gun is a 76mm 13pdr, pen 42, damage 165

Tier 3 - Sexton (SS: I think this is the Sexton, basically a M7 Priest with a 25pdr )

- its gun has following gold shell: 87mm AP, 180 dam, 92 pen, regular shell: 180 dam, 71 pen AP

Tier 4 - Birch Gun (SS: very early SPG (which is odd), great traverse)

- this vehicle has a 180 degrees turret
- basically it has the same gun as tier 3, it also has a HE shell - 280 dam, 44 pen

Tier 5 - Bishop (SS: basically a Valentine chassis with a 25 pdr gun)

- historically the gun could traverse only 8 degrees
- 114mm gun will be available (450 dam, 57 pen HE)

Tier 7 - unknown arty (not yet textured, looks American)

- gun: 139mm 80pdr, 900 dam, 70 pen HE

Tier 8 - unknown arty (SS: "FVsomething" - experimental SPG?)

- gun is 152mm something, 1250 dam, 90 pen HE

Tier 9 - unknown arty (SS: is that the Centurion suspension?)

- the gun is 182mm,  1750 dam and 92 pen HE

Tier 10 - unknown arty (SS: It was supposed to be the FV4005 stage 1, this is not it. Definitely a Conqueror chassis tho)

- gun is 233mm, 2200 dam and 117 pen HE

  1. Incredible gun traverse is much less effective with the new 8.6 nerfed aiming times, so it is not a very large advantage.
Any news on the TIX and TX premium shells? Do they have AP?

    1. No more info than what you see here. There was a rumor that the premium top shell will be HESH.

    2. I disagree. Snap shot will reduce the aiming penalty for turreted or good traverse arty. There is nothing available that will do that for moving the vehicle to adjust your aim. The 8.6 changes will hurt, but "incredible gun traverse" for any arty is a distinct advantage.

    3. Agreed. Snap shot is 1 to go for in SPG crews.

What other Perks/ Skills other than Camo are best choices?

    4. BIA is awesome, camo is not increadible, but it helps... sixth sense (a must), i take some increase in view range and reduced ground resistance

    5. 1. BIA on all
      2. 6th sense + Snap shot + cluthc breaking / off road driving + view range(radioman) + whatever you may consider useful for loaders.

I trained my loaders in adrenaline rush and intuition, the last one being a total useless perk, may reconsider changing it to something else, problem is there is nothing usefull atm for loaders...camo is useless on BIG arties.

  2. Sexton have only AP shell? o.O

  3. WOW!!!!!!!!. if this is what it looks like
then I WILL be getting this arty line, even though I never play arty. it's still all good!!

  4. The tier 8-10 are based on centurion chassis

    1. Strange they implement these kind of artys yet didnt implement the similar TDs

    2. Tier VIII is obviously on Caernarvon chassis.
Tier IX is based on Centurion, indeed.
Tier X might be based on Conqueror, as SS states. (I don't have Conq. in my garage)

      Delete
    3. The Caernarvon and Conqueror have the same chassis.
The difference between the tier 8 and tier 10 is where the superstructure is mounted.
The tier 8's gun is mounted on the front of the hull in reverse like the archer and the new American tier 9 SPG and it IRL will have to turn around to fire.
The tier 10 SPG have the superstructure is mounted on the back of the hull FV215B style with the gun facing forward.

  5. Damn they are ugly xD

btw.. if the rumors are true about top tier arty gun.. and the HESH thingy.. that will be.. damn... no words

    1. HESH will be like AP shell that deals as much as HE. You still have to hit directly.

    2. HESH is HE in WoT, you don't have to hit directly...

    3. But if you miss.. you still have the HE dmg! That's... daaaaaamn.

  6. And Tier 6 ?
The Sexton was not supposed to be a premium tank ?
For the tier 8-10, they look too similar in my taste :-/

    1. Nope, that's just a Sexton. Remember, we were promised ten tanks and there are only nine here? This guy must have mixed premium Sexton with regular tier 3, which isn't here.

      Delete
    2. Actually SS is right.
      That's the Sexton II.
The Sexton I will be the premium.

    3. ok, thanks for the explanations :)
But if i'm right the differences between the Sexton I and II are quite minor ? (even if i've read that the I was built based on the Ram, itself based on the M3 Lee when the II was built based on the M4 Sherman)
Does the differences really justify 2 models ? (what can we expect as differences ingame ? Especially in term of guns ?)

  7. tier 10 is FV 215b chassis (the front is from ingame FV 215b (183))

  9. Tier 2 Carden Loyd carrier, or some varient of it.

    Tier 7 Crusader SPG

Tier 8 The suspension is throwing me off, but I really want to say FV3805

    Tier 9FV5806

    Tier 10 FV207 (likely)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And by likely, I mean that's what it's designation will likely be in game. It was a "projected" design.

      Delete
    2. Little correct. Tier 9 would be the FV 3806, not FV5806

      Delete
    3. Hate to correct myself again, but I may have been mistaken. Given that the FV3805 was to mount a 5.5 inch gun (140mm) perhaps it is the FV207 which was to mount a 152mm. Again, it is a projected development, so there really isn't too much to go buy, but it would make sense considering the caernarvon suspension it seems to have.

      Tier 10?

      Made up.

    4. I don't think the tier 8 is the FV3805. It looks like a Conqueror chassis. FV206?

  14. T2 - Carden-Lloyd SP
(No designations were really given to these. They were made impromptu after the Fall of France.)

    T3 - Sexton Mk.II

    T4 - Birch Gun Mk.I

    T7 - Crusader 5.5" SP

    T8 - FV 207
(I thought this was in the FV 3800 series as well, but that suspension and engine deck scream Conqueror. Since there aren't any drawings of the FV 207, it seems Wargaming is pretty much just taking the casemate from the 3800-series and putting it on the Conqueror. It works, I guess.)

    T9 - FV 3806

    T10 - Not real.
(This is just... weird. Conqueror suspension, FV 3806-style casemate, and the BL 9.2" howitzer, a gun that stopped seeing use after the war. Seems like Wargaming didn't like the thought of using the FV 4005/1 and made up their own tank for the end tier arty position, because this thing shouldn't exist. The heaviest planned SPG in the Universal Tank project was to be the FV 207 with the other SPG (FV 206) in the series noted as "medium artillery", likely a 25pdr armed variant. There was nothing else planned to my knowledge, much less utilizing a large outdated gun from 1914. But if it is between this thing or incorrectly using the 4005/1 as an indirect fire SPG, this is, in my opinion, the better choice.)

Overall, not bad. But the placement of the Bishop and the Birch Gun is just bizarre. One was a project to test the feasibility of an armored gun tractor in the mid-20s and the other was an emergency project to fill a role until a better vehicle could be put into production. Whatever, that is Minsk for you.

    1. Yeah, Birch Gun and Bishop after the Sexton is just weird.

      Delete
    2. Well, Sexton is british Priest. If in US tree Priest is level 3, then Sexton needs to be tier 3 (as premium one). Loyd SP is level 2, it cannot be other. So... what options do we have for Bishop and Birch Gun? None.

      Delete
    3. Birch Gun seems to get the 25pdr and the Bishop gets the 4.5" gun. There is no reason why the Birch Gun with the 75mm and an ahistorical upgrade couldn't be tier 3, Bishop be tier 4, and Sexton with the 4.5" be tier 5. There is no way the Bishop could fit the 4.5" in that casemate, while the Sexton's open space would make it possible (even if both would probably fall over without a counterweight).

      Delete
    4. Actually, looking at it again, the tier 10 uses a modified FV 215b hull. The glacis matches the glacis of the FV 215b (183). I'd make a guess that WG will likely call their new creation the FV 215a, which in real life was to be a 165mm armed AVRE tank.

      Delete
  15. Frank, you forgot a vehicle. Around 4:28 the FV 305 is shown untextured. It was an SPG variant in the FV 300 series of light tanks that used a 140mm gun like the Crusader 5.5" SP.

    ReplyDelete
  16. he Tier II is a Loyd carrier with a World war one MKIV 13 Pounder AA gun, of which only six guns where made.

What in gods name its doing on an unarmoured transport in an artillery branch I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For the same reason they are cramming a 4.5" gun into the Bishop and putting a 25pdr on the Birch Gun at tier 4, I suppose. Wargaming logic.

      Delete
    2. Those weapons are at least in the time frame and artillery weapons.

Its not even a Normal 13 Pounder field gun, but a specifically designed AA gun

      Delete
  17. Tier 7 should be Crusader SPG.

Tier 8 looks like using a reversed Caernarvon chassis with a FV305 superstructure, no idea what is it.

Thier 9 should be FV3806, a Centurion base SPG with 183mm gun.

Tier 10 looks like using a Conqueror chassis, likely a make up tank again.

  18. >the blogger speculates that it might have good horizontal arc and if I understood this correctly, he said that the whole British arty branch will be characterized by good traverse angles

Except the Bishop. -5°/+15° elevation, 8° traverse. Fucking horrid.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can you clarify which 4.5 inch artillery will be in the Bishop? Because I highly doubt the BL 4.5 inch Gun would fit in there.

Thank you very much for feedback.

We really care a lot on the balance, specifically when it goes to premium tanks. That's why we are polishing Sexton SPG for 3 updates, if 8.6 is counted.

As for the options you've mentioned, I do agree that armour should be not nerfed and model should be kept. But the decision is not only mines, so we need as many opinions as we can gather.

    Best regards,
    Vallter

  23. OMG, more arties.
WG you make a big mistake with the arties anyhow and you just make the situation worst with each of your steps. Arty nerf: in fact, minor changes anyhow and it seems to be buff finally because of the MM change, new British SPG: more arties not if there would not been too much already

Do you build world of arties now? it should be a separate game not as a cancer inside the WoT.

The arty is your agent Smith and will ruin your game and Neo is nowhere and no hope.

  24. That t10 arty will suck. Look at how short its barrel is. It will be imprecise beyond belief. Sorry, I was looking forward to the Brit arties, but I don't think I will go for either of them.

  25. Tier 2 is definitely a UC (Or was it Loyd?) arty. My research for the creation of the Israeli Tech tree brought this little guy up. While I'm not entirely sure this SPG served at all in the Israeli War of independence, it definitely did exist. He'll be pretty cool and I think we'll see a 105 MM bofors mounted.

  27. You all are aware that the Caernarvon AND the Conqueror used the same hull, right? Or at least basically the same. Look at the frontal hull of both in-game, it's nearly, if not completely, the same.

Tier8 and 9 look like a Centurion I or Centurion 7/1 hull turned around (much like the M53/M55 has a turned-around M48(?) Hull.

    2. FV4005 stage 1 to some it is known as the Conway, I think it might be that or I'm thinking of another SPG, the barrel is the same as the top tier Brit TD but has an auto loader.

  29. if the sexton is the premium tank one they should put the alecto as a SPG because that's what it was. not a TD but i would love to have a TD and SPG Alecto but i can only hope. the arty here looks good to play. i would love to try arty as i only play the British tanks.

    Tier 5 - Bishop
    Tier 6 - FV304
