24.5.2013

- Storm on removing the tracers in 0.8.6: all the tracers for all the vehicles in all the cases (spotted/unspotted) (with the exception of arty, both spotted and unspotted) will be disabled, in the arty "satellite" view, the area in which the arty player can see the tracers of enemy unspotted arty will be reduced (SS: harder counterartillery)
- the subcaliber/HEAT nerf will affect also the vehicles, that use subcaliber shells as silver ammo (hightier meds)
- the upcoming profitability buff of hightier tanks won't apply on tier 8 premium vehicles
- vehicles that are getting XP buff (arty, TD) won't get a retroactive XP refund for crew XP lost because of the earlier low XP modifier
- the current information policy (SS: patch notes available in advance as it is now) will continue for the following patches
- new Nvidia 320.18 drivers weren't tested by WG yet
- it's "impossible" to impelement functional (even coaxial) MG's (SS: that would work the way guns do)
- AA tanks with twin-linked weapons won't most likely appear in the game
- apparently, multi-rocket launchers such as Katyusha (tracked) won't appear in the game
- tracers aren't taken down to make them better visible
- the hull modules won't come in 2013 and they won't be exclusive for TD's only apparently
- devs are still considering to implement the option to disable your least favourite maps

And a few answers from Storm from his blog:

- currently, the bushes (which sometimes reduce FPS for some players) are still not optimized
- devs are still discussing making your stats hideable so XVM and other such mods won't see your winrate and other stats
- Sexton I won't come to the store in 0.8.6, more tests in the new arty system are needed
- test server capacity will be improved, but only slightly (the previously announced increase in test server capacity in 8.5 was cancelled for some reasons)
- the T-50-2 / MT-25 switch is planned for 0.8.7
- lowtier premium tanks will have their income also buffed
- the new XL spall liner for superheavies will be cca 1,5 ton heavier than the current large one
- anti-aliasing is slowly being worked on
- it's possible the spall liner will also be buffed by reducing the chance of module/crew damage
- the sound gameengine is completely new, it's not the old one, only rewritten
- the name changes for French tanks are little things, such as the dots in the German patch
- there will be no "Art of War"-like competition for 8.6
- E-10 TD will come too (later)

    3. According to Russian forums, there are (illegal) mods that use those to trace back to positions of tanks (and arties) and/or make them more visible/longer visible.

So WG has to remove tracers for rework to prevent these kinds of exploits.

    4. Read it for the thied time. :)
Tracers are disabled for all modes. You can only see enemy arty tracers and if you use "sat view", you spot arty tracers in smaller area than before. Frank should've used ";" sign in that sentence.

      Delete
    5. -"all the tracers [...]in the arty "satellite" view"

If i understand that correctly, the tracer changes only apply for SPGs.
If u drive a ordinary tank u will still see tracers, especially your own.

I would really be dissapointed if they remove your own tracers so u dont see where your shots hitting any longer.... The last time the tracers were removed for all tanks really pissed me off

    6. I emptied only the brackets:
      - Storm on removing the tracers in 0.8.6: all the tracers for all the vehicles in all the cases (...) (...) will be disabled, in the arty "satellite" view, the area in which the arty player can see the tracers of enemy unspotted arty will be reduced (SS: harder counterartillery)

      Again:
All the tracers for all the vehicles in all the cases will be disabled [End of first part of the sentence]

[Second part] In the arty satellite view, the area in which the arty player can see the tracers of enemy unspotted arty will be reduced.
Frank please use less complex sentences, fore some people (either me, or the others) the longer ones seem to be controversial.

    7. This is nothing new, back in Closed Beta there was a mod that made tracers stay visible for longer, so you could trace back where arty/tanks had fired from. It was a client side mod, so was dealt with quickly.

    8. This is frustrating, mostly because I like to see where MY shot goes when I fire. They should remove other tank's tracers and keep our own if that is at all possible.

    1. Strictly in ground role I think, it has nothing to do with airplanes. The reason this gets asked is simply because some AA vehicles are visually attractive and some have massive firepower (such as the German quad 20mm mount).

    4. Their focus is on the new products and WoT is basically in maintenance mode. Minor tweaks to the core game but mostly content changes. They gonna milk the cow till it tips over and hope that the other products make good profit by then.
Playing since first day of open beta this is really a sad sight. There are so many very smart people in Russia and Belorussia but they can't seem to find their way to the WoT dev team to implement some real new and cool features.
Nobody asks to change the game over night and risk to lose a lot of players but there are ways of testing new things in parallel.

This doesn't sound like a bad idea

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a useless idea. XVM is just a tool, it's up to the user to detrmine how that tool is used. If they are an ass, well, being an ass is already against the rules and they would be an ass regardless. Report'em, ignore'em and move along. Also, the work around is stupid simple, all XVM would have to do is prowl the portal to generate the data instead of getting it direct via an API. Would take a bit longer, might not be as "real time", but most of the data would still be available. Waste of WG's resources.

      Delete
    2. They would do anything to upset players who care about player skill.

      Delete
    3. Basically hiding stats mostly helps bots, afkers and those 44% loudmouths who whine about their teams being suck despite the reason for the suck being themselves and nothing else. It would also seriously hinder how clans recruit players.

There is also the security concern that you take some known player and create an account that changes his name from Vitaly to Vita|y and then you can go trolling others in game chat or elsewhere and no one can check if you really are the real Vitaly or not because all info about how man battles and what tanks you have played is hidden.

Xvm is great tool but its purpose is to not flame bad players but to show valuable information during a battle. Whether you want to see that information should be open to everyone and afaik there are good reasons why hiding stats is bad and only bad reasons why hiding stats is good.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The normalisation (and in some case penetration) nerf

      Delete
    2. Normalisation is pretty reasonable, as subcaliber shells are basically hardened darts, so they will for sure bounce on shallower agnles easier than regular AP shells. I can live with it, but I just hope that only "gold" APCR will have their penetration nerfed, and T10 meds will stay as they were.

  21. Tracers are a vital part of the game. And they remove them. Again.

Its pathetic how WG can't protect their own game from cheating and have to resort to removing vital game features. Whats next, removing of track marks because some 3rd party program can detect where are the enemy tanks? Wtf is wrong with WG?

I tought they have programs that check for hacking programs? Apparently not!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. WG wants to focus on the cybersport side of the game, teams winning because of cheats might affect that badly. If you think that not being able to battle cheating is pathetic, then your opinion is irrelevant as almost all online games have cheating and hence are pathetic. In fact, WoT's server-side engine makes it one of the least cheated games there is.

      Delete
    2. Their incompetence is only outmached by their greed.

      Delete
    3. Focusing on cybersports when the game is horrible for cybersports....the logical thing to do. With a 25% RNG this game is CRAP for cybersports. Heck, any sord of RNG is crap for cybersports. Look at Dota, LoL, Starcraft 2, all of them have units that do a set amount of damage, and winning or losing is purely decided on player skill.

Now having RNG rolls that decides if you hit or not, if you penetrate or not, and how much damage you do, a low skill team with good rolls can roflstomp a good skilled team wich is out of luck, hencefoth WoT is crap for cybersports. Its a good game, but not for cybersports.

I mean, I have watched a stream of WoT that was cast by Tasteless and Artosis, and watching the game was not pleasing at all. 10 minutes of camping followed by some shooting, yea, interesting. I prefer SC2 by a large margin, and so did everyone in the stream chat who watched it. Everyone said it was fail.

      Delete
    4. Lol @ dota has no randomness ... Dota has crit, bash, evasion, backtrack, blind, maim .. etc chances that has a huge impact on how carry heros are played .
It would be a mistake comparing WOT to any twitch shooter .

      Delete
    5. every fucking game soon or later become hacked, with WoT it happened later. For instance you can compare WoT with BF3 with all their aimbots, recoil turned of etc etc. And WoT are much more popular multiplayer game than a BF3 or CoD. And this "warpack" not even a cheat anyway its just a realy useful tool which gives an somewhat unfair advantage for players just like xvm, white skins for destroyed tanks, zoom out mod, skins with modules etc etc. You cant really compare that to common shooter hacks like - invisible walls, aimbots, onehit kills, speed hacks etc etc.

      Delete
    6. About RNG. Actually, according to Storm on RU forum, they've also modified the distribution of damage and penetration, not by as much as accuracy but in 0.8.6 you'll get less "edge" values and more values near average pen/dmg. The cut-off has been changed from 2 sigma to 3 sigma.

I'd also like to point out another game that has way more randomness than WoT, yet is highly competitive and popular - poker.

      Delete
    7. Poker is actually revolving around that randomness and because of it it can have really high amount of mindgames too.

In WoT randomness is not that good.

      Delete
    8. Why is WoT randomness not that good? Because "a low skill team with good rolls can roflstomp a good skilled team wich is out of luck"? That is 1) extremely statistically unlikely, 2) is not supported by evidence from the constant domination of RU 7/42 tournaments by certain teams, 3) will become even more unlikely because of 0.8.6 changes.

There can be plays around randomness in WoT, like every time I show a bit of my "skin" with the hopes that the opponent misses me, or when I spin around arty, knowing that their aim circle becomes huge when they turn around.

      Delete
  22. I cant help but think that they are removing tracers because they are helpless against cheats, I mean if they could detect these like they claim why would they remove tracers? I bet the whole cheat detection is nothing but hot air.

  26. >it's possible the spall liner will also be buffed by reducing the chance of module/crew damage

oh man I really love WG...

THIS IS EXACTLY THE PURPOSE OF THE SPALL LINER.

To protect the crew from spalling, it should have done this from the beginning. It should at least reduce the chance to get a crew compartment module damage (radio, ammo, fuel tanks) and crew damage by 50% from none penetrating HE hits.

Because thats the most annoying thing with artiest, when you get hit and half your crew gets knocked out, including gun, radio and what not.
Its already a huge trade off to equip spall liner in the first place, you lose one valuable slot and gain additional weight, which reduces your agility.

But I bet my ass we will only get something like a 10-15% reduced chance on crew/module damage, which makes the thing still useless.

Basically they just fucked up the only source of seeing even small flash where incoming fire is coming from... Because some retards use modified files to see them better? ( You can trace modified files, ya know WG? ) ... Great. Now when enemies miss I don't even have a clue from about where it comes when they miss.

Its like many years ago when there was no tracers at all game was very dull because there was nothing to be seen just guessing randomly where the enemies might have shot. So what if people has tracers hacks, use your goddamn time to follow how and what they hack and ban everyone using them FOR GOOD. No '1-7 days of no use ban'. Also I think making all but tank/garage skins should be as bannable offence because they are modifying the client for their advantage, more than not. It is easiest way to make game fair for all is deny the modifications which should not be modified.

  29. Making counter arty harder? Oh cmon. Its not hard to counter the typical dumb*ss arty that sits in map corners but if anything they should make counter arty more legit part of the game, like mention in tutorials and reward new players for it more so the arties have to play the game more and recognize each other as a threat from the beginning of the game. What balances good snipers against other classes in TF2 is the fact they have to be on lookout for each other.
