27.4.2013

Very few info coming lately

- when fuel tank module HP drops to zero, they caught automatically on fire (SS: some player mentioned a case where they were "destroyed", yet nothing happened)
- the only thing that influences the drowning countdown is the height of the hull ("if I recall correctly") (SS: in other words, hermetically sealed tanks have no advantage when going into water)

A few things Overlord mentioned in his latest post:

- Overlord states that it's not clear what should be done to improve the quality of average gamers
- significant 8.6 general arty rebalance confirmed
- tier 9 and 10 profitability won't improve
- Overlord and other community people do realize the failure of EU Q&A in mind, Overlord stated:

"True that, people are not equal - they have different (cultural, family, etc) backgrounds and abilities so they can't be treated equally - that's why you shouldn't bash on Serb's style of communication for instance. Adding to that, we, as a developers (speaking only for devs here), have extremely limited resources in terms of communication. Yup, English, ofc can be covered - that wouldn't be a problem, but probably no more. And smth is usually better than anything. So, generally speaking, language treatment could be slightly different, e.g. basic set of languages would get standard support while English-speaking resources could provide smth more."
and

"Blunt RU->EN translation would probably do for starter, it wouldn't be a professional way of doing things. I admit there are issues with the current workflow. I'm still hoping for improvements that should follow after our San Francisco meeting back in March. There should be place for direct dev-player-dev communication."
- historical battles should contain PVE elements
- CW's are planned to be revamped to "involve more players" (SS: on RU server there is a talk of Clanwars being changed so huge clans and alliances are not dominating anymore)

If you feel like it, leave Overlord your feedback on 8.5, but please, be polite... thanks :)

  1. Only serB seems to do pointless trolling, even on legit questions. While other devs do troll sometimes, they are mostly sincere.

    "tier 9 and 10 profitability won't improve"
And it should not. The devs need to give players incentive to buy prem account or tanks for credit grinding. Though increasing the income of tier 3,4 slightly would be better.

  2. Hey SS I have a completely off-topic question
If every tank has a maximum viewrange of 500 meter how can I see tanks 600 meters or farther?(spotted by someone else off course)

Sorry if this was asked earlier

    1. Draw distance for tanks is cca 700m, you can see a target that someone else spots at that distance, but you yourself can only spot only at cca 450m.

      Delete
    2. I know spotting range has a limit of 445 meter.
I just don't understand why isn't there any info on the actual maximum viewrange.
Is it different for each tank?
How much is it precisely? 670m? 680m?
I think this should be one of the basic tank stats.

    5. there is no difference between tanks.
It depends on your graphic settings (drawing distance).

the maximum is a "squared" form of 1000m per side (500 m in each direction from the tank). (no circle!)
and as you can imagine, the diagonal of a square is A*(~1,4)

      so: 500*1,4 = ~700m diagonally

-> this squaredform doesnt turn with the tank means your best viewrange is basically SW/SE/NW/NE while your worst are S/W/N/E

    7. Btw this square system is pretty stupid.
A circle would be much more logical.
SS could you somehow ask the devs if they may planning to change it in the future?

    8. I'm sure your Draw Distance setting has no effect on which tanks are drawn (that would be extremely unfair for players with low end computers). Draw Distance just makes terrain disappear in mist; with minimum settings, you can see enemy tanks (spotted by someone else) in areas where the terrain is already almost invisible.

      Delete
    9. Actually, object draw distance DOES disadvatage low end computers, but even pretty shitty computers can have it set on max so I think it's not that big of a deal. There might be a change coming but not anytime soon, devs stated they are heavily limited in their server computing power.

    10. Actually to add on you Can see over the 445 but it technically counts towards anti camouflage. This is what I understood to be the balancing effect vs 700m. Much more fair otherwise scouts/arty/TDs wouldn't have a chance.

    11. I read that these settings set to HIGH already reach draw limits - can you somehow confirm that SS? Basically is it true that it doesn't have to be set on Maximum?

    5. Another good idea is to limit the tank amount and the type (IE using 8 or 9 tigers against a bunch of shermans) considering the scenario.. and also, limit the selection of tanks to real tanks and no wonky autoloader/postwar tanks.. (yes I know this would limit a lot the selection of tanks, but it's called historial for a purpose)

    1. Do u honestly think with all the shit the EU office get from whiney players, that they've not already always been asking for the Devs to answer in English also? The devs r stubborn trolls and won't do that because they only care about Russia. EU and USA can only work with what they're given. It's not there fault when the devs won't help them. Pretty sure Ectar is not going to say that on the forums because it's very bad publicity to make it look like there is a split in the company/communication problems.

Think about it, for everything that's wrong with the game, on the EU forums the only people who u will talk to is the community guys and mods. Everyone gives them shit like it's there fault. It's not there fault when they have to lie or cover for the devs and the russia office.

Overlord just always says what he wants on his blog, much like Silentstalker does here. If he's wrong or doesn't follow through something no 1 really cares and nothing is lost. I remember reading on Overlords blog when he asked for feedback about the community, people said forums were shit but there was support for Ectar and the Challenger. When Overlord was asked about them directly for his opinion he admitted he's never met them/spoke to them and "heard some good things"... He didn't know fuck all about them or anyone else there lol!

Anything Overlord says is just to make Overlord look good/stay in the spotlight. His blog is boring now. He doesn't care about players, he just wants hits on his blog and for people to give him attention.

    2. I think you are wrong. It's not that Overlord "doesn't care", he's just way too busy. Personally, I don't blame him - I mean, it's not like he has something like "and you gotta run a blog and talk to players frequently" in his contract. And with the amount of shit he's been getting, I am surprised he still bothers with the blog in the first place.

As for his blog, it's good enough, sometimes there is some nice insight over there and the answers he gives are sometimes revealing just as the ones from SerB and Storm.

      Delete
    3. Well ofc you'd support him because he said nice things about you. Why is a Q&A the mesure of community support? u always give the EU guys a hard time liek it's there fault Russia isn't telling them things. Don't u ever wonder why it's overlord tellig players everything and not overlord telling the EU office things so they have the same info? - He just wants the attention and people to go to him.

      - JP

      Delete
    4. I supported him long before I actually had this blog. He's a nice guy, that's why. As for the "measure of community support" - look at it like this: I am pretty sure noone from Minsk called WG EU and told them "Okay, listen up, I FORBID you to start translating the Russian Q&A and to hire one guy, who would put the stuff together". Did WG EU do anything? No. Nothing, just a worthless Q&A trollsession with a guy that posts once per blue moon and answers really daft and simple stuff. That's not WG RU's fault, that's WG EU incompetence.

As for Overlord - well, I think he doesn't have much influence on WG EU. Personally, I suspect he had some fall-out with someone from Minsk and was pushed aside for a while and then ended up in the mobile division. I really don't think he does anything for attention - he has nothing to gain by that.

      Delete
    5. he has everything to gain because he's still in the spotlight and people still go to him, rather than him being forgotten and he quietly works on his new project.

It's like if someone else translated the q and a and say did it quicker, people would probably stop coming here(as that's the only reason people came here to start with- not saying it's a bad thing) I think u know this to and u don't want that to happen which is why u bought other people here to start posting and why u can't stop talking about checkout lol.

Why would eu hire someone to translate ru q&a if the devs speak english? :P why would any company hire someone just to translate a q&a, that's just silly. The devs could just reply in English and everyone could work from that (like u did). It's the devs that are cuasing this problem because I don't think they care.

You didn't answer this. - Why does Overlord never tell the EU what he knows? Did you not tell him about checkout and he did nothing? That was all serious stuff and he just let it implode/explode. i think it's because he just doesn't care what happens to EU guys or he wants them to look bad, so when he shares stuff or if he came back everyone is like "ohmg overlord, u so great!" I was really surprized when he said he didn't even know who ectar and challenger were or what they do

      - JP

      Delete
    6. Actually, I think you got it totally wrong.

In fact, you contradict yourself: if people come here only for translations as you say and I know it, why would I bring in people that have nothing to do with translations? Only I do them, the rest of the folks write mostly historical articles (sometimes combined with WoT effects).

I brought more people in because a) I care more about tank history, real life tanks and various interesting projects than I care about endless "ingame" discussions (about MM etc.) b) to diversify content away from translations c) because I like those people personally and I respect them. It wasn't a random choice. No reason however has anything to do with translations.

What I do care about of course is that my previous work doesn't get lost - which it won't, it's not like anyone can delete this blog or have it deleted. But as for the future itself - I am currently considering quitting, so I hardly need any more spotlight than I already have. It's the same with Overlord I suspect - he has his job, even if he is totally forgotten afterwards - why should he care? What would he gain from more attention?

As for "why should the devs answer in English" - if they say they won't, they won't and they don't have to, they have other stuff to do it's their underlings that have to cope with that and compensate by either starting translating or hire someone will do that.

As for the third part: I actually DID tell Overlord and Overlord DID act internally. He just didn't tell me, I got impatient and blew the whole thing up a week before there was a formal hearing scheduled. One of the EU people told me that (can't remember if it was Overlord or Moneo) and I believe it. As for Ectar and Challenger - I think both actually came after he left the EU section, so why should he know them? It's not like everybody knows everybody in Wargaming. Seems logical to me.

    1. I am actually hoping for Heuschrecke turning out good/fun, but they will probably change whole arty mechanics for worse. IIRC, devs said that if amount of arty doesn't drop after 8.6 they will nerf them until it does.

  8. I've been keeping an eye on the info about the arty re-tiering, but I haven't seen anything about the KV-2 to S-51 transfer or the S-51 in general. With it's gun, it should be a tier 8ish at least, do you think it's too much of a stretch to transfer from a KV-2 to a tier 8 arty? I think they will modify the transfer to end up at the tier 6 or 7 arty instead.

    1. As far as i know S-51 will keep its gun.

    1. Yeah, some kind of battle limit to that, like 3000 battles or so. So you'd suppose they would have learnt the basics before jumping to high tier games..

    2. Like you never see tier 10 drivers with no clue of how to play? These days they seem more common than tier 8 noobs.

    3. Stopping the sales of T8 prems to newbies will do nothing to improve the overall quality of players, it will just reduce their appearance in top tiers, but that doesn't really solve the issue.

    4. The 1st part of the tutorial is a good step forward. I hope they'll make some more. Maybe they would help a bit?

Come to think of that it's weird that there wasn't a tutorial already 2 years ago in the first place. Many other games have a tutorial in the beginning that even block you from playing furhter if not completed.

      Delete
    5. I honestly don't think it's going to ever get fixed, I mean, it can be mitigated by tutorials and the such, but after the TV advertising it all went downhill...

      Delete
    6. In the end tutorials and videos can do so much, but the rest is up to the player and his ability to use that information..

      Delete
    7. Alas it is the people who were into tanks and history that have a big advantage. Less so, I think, then those who play it all day every day. Ok maybe they don't play it THAT much but I know a few that do it 3-4 days a week 10 hours at a day.

More tutorials would be helpful but the first on is pretty good. Could be better with one dedicated to say artillery and one for practicing using cover and show the positive of cover and negative of not using it.
