SOS - how does the Aufkl.Panther perform?

Straight Outta Supertest - how does the Aufklärungspanzer Panther perform? This time no pictures, sorry - but I got my hands on the official Russian supertester evaluation of this tank. Basically, the supertesters are asked "how comfortable is it to play with this vehicle?" and "would you work to unlock this tank on public server?" Please note that during supertest, vehicles are tested not using general random matchmaking, but against other vehicles of the same tier and class (in this case, the AMX-13/75, T71 and the WZ-131)

Supertesters basically evaluate this tank positively. For its weight, it is rather nimble and it doesn't feel underpowered. It is considered well armored and exceptionally good in ramming, but the choice of guns is average (the Konisch gun has sufficient penetration and rate of fire, but low alpha), the gun platform is also stable (accurate). It is estimated it will be a great light tank killer. The ramming however is essential - if you miss the first ram attack, you will find yourself in a difficult position. Its size is repeatedly noted to be its biggest disadvantage, as is its lackluster set of guns.

Supertesters note it's roughly on par with the AMX-13/75, but the outcome of the battle depends mostly on player skill and is heavily influenced by the fact, whether the Panther manages to actually ram the AMX-13 (seems like the ramming will be the tactic of choice for this vehicle). If the AMX-13 gets rammed by it, its chances are practically zero. If the Panther player doesn't however use ramming and relies only on firepower, it's fully possible for the AMX to reload the autoloader, in which case the Panther will probably lose. Against the T71, the situation is similiar, just that the T71 is more nimble. Compared to WZ-131, the situation repeats itself, supertesters note that if a successful ramming attack is performed, the WZ-131 loses 200+ hp. If the WZ-131 however avoids the ramming attack, it has a good chance of winning, because its gun DPS is higher.

Summary: heavy, but competitive vehicle, that has to close in for the kill and deals heavy damage by ramming. On medium to long distances, other light tanks have the advantage.

As for the second question: roughly 2/3 of supertesters would unlock it on live server. It definitely is considered competitive -  that probably means it will go live, for good or ill.

  1. So basicly, you don't use the gun, insted you use the tank as weapon. :S

  2. My only concern is the fact that it's HORRIBLE to look at

  3. Beyond stupid. A tank based on ramming? A high tier scout tank?

Just, dumb. Morons are not going to be playing it on a live server against other light tanks only.

  4. Interesting. Playing only against same tier & type sounds like a terrible way of evaluating tanks - no wonder so many of them are poorly balanced.

Ramming lights and arty might work, but for the majority of opponents, this will have to rely on the konitch, which means running at a serious credit loss.

Any info on what its camo and view range will be like?

  5. so, while the oter nations base there designs on advanced concepts, germany uses a more modern version of the battering ram?

    1. haha, good point.. there you can see how much love russia got for germany... they are considered the medieval forces here... ha!

strangely though, due to the impressive amount of modern technologies based on german researches of 36-45.

just russians ever thought about actualy ramming tanks (check this blog, russian experimental projects), ive never heared of any german tank-projects for RAM-ing an enemy.

      STUPID!
(hope the RU251 will meet my requirements, but im not having much hope here...)

  6. So same principle as the v/iv. Except the v/iv has such terrible steering it's quite challenging to actually intersect with your target.

  7. Why not just bring the Rammtiger into the game instead and be done with it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Just bollocks. Ramming should NEVER be a primary mode of damage in the game.

  9. let russians be super testers, and see what they do to german tanks...

  12. So much retardness:

Only morons or unluky oponents will get rammed by a Panther in a AMX13-75 (61 km/h topseed - 40° travers).

You 'll end up mostly in matches with t9-10 top tanks and 2-3 oponent scouts. Even if you manage to ram or damage them, that wont give u much XP ... would be interesting to know what one is supposed to to the rest of the match after the enemy suicide scouts are dead. Killed by your own t8-9 meds, because these are probably faster and agile in many cases, and have greater firepower.

What kind of BS are they doing there in supertest ...

  13. yeah full retard mode on again

  14. Hum. I fear that it will become a one-trick pony, this tank. Ramming is great and all (and part of the reason I like my chinese lights, as they're pretty good at it) but considering how slow the traverse is normally on the panther hull, I worry that it will make it's one strength hard to utilize.

That they seem to want the Konisch as top gun also irks me. I would much rather have seen it get a buffed up L/70 instead.

I would say that I hope they'll buff up the fire rate on the konisch on this vehicle, but I doubt they will unless they change the ridiculous gold rounds. To get a DPM of ~1500 (which isn't even a great dpm to begin with) with AP would require a fire rate of ~23, which would make dpm with gold rounds a game-breaking 3800.

    1. I expect they'll give it a good DPM with gold and ignore the AP.

  15. Interesting, this is exactly how I used my VK2801, to the tune of a 68%+ WR, mind you. Not sure I want it to be the ONLY way this tank is useful, but it sure will fit what I used to do with my 2801, anyway.

I think the big difference, though, is the derp. When you ram, and accidentally track yourselv, or miss, or other oopses, you could make up for it with the BOOOOOOM. Without that, yeah, that is hanging out with cockinbreeze.

If they have a good view range and other scoutish abilities, I can make it work. Made T21 work when I thought it was impossible.

  16. You went full retard WG.. Never go full retard.

  17. Great evaluation method. So basically being a tier VII Light (is that actually confirmed it will be a light) and having appropriate MM they design it as a Light Killer. And having the MM in mind, how many of the lights will it face per match? Three tops? And what it's suppose to do after it will kill, by some miracle, these enemy lights? Try to ram tier X? In all fairness I would rather have Beobachtungsturm with an enhanced view range. Give me 420 meters and I won't even mind mock up guns.

    1. Relax.
Konisch on gold is better gun then other LT t7 have.

I don;t like this tank, cause it seems it's job will be wait behind your lines and intercept scouts (no rushing forward because youa re too large for that) and after killing enemy scouts you play as a typical Panther - 2nd line sniper with less hp but better mobility (and maybe camo).

It will be worse then other t7 lights in raiding behind enemy lines to find arty and active spotting.

    2. only noobs and wallet warriors use gold ammo!!

  18. So all that work to say it plays like the PzV/IV with a choice of guns?

I could have told them that just looking at the picture.

  19. In Russia the tank supertests YOU!
    :D

  20. To be honest.. your info is slightly wrong... be wary of chinese whispers...

  21. Seems to me this will be a waste of time even grinding for it.

  22. If im forced to play this shit to get the Lepard 1, Warthunder it is, even without tanks. Their plains are x100 better than than WoWP so i have faith they will do a fair job on tanks.

  23. so for do something whit this piece of **** i need to run over the map ram one light tank and then killed by a couple of heavy or medium because it's to damn high to run away or find a cover.
    wg it's joking whit us...

  24. To sum this up. The Aufkl. Panther is forced to ramm faster and more agile tanks in order to take them out or will simply be outdmged while on the other hand due to the lack of gun dps he will lose by default vs any other tank in the game. Now thats what I call a great and extremely funny concept. I already imagine A. Panthers chasing after AMX tanks. Gl with that. This will really help vs all who keep bringing up the argument of WG's anti German bias.

This tank will be the uber pain to play based on the information we got so far. Wouldnt it be even more "FUN" if there was no other way to reach the leo 1 Prototype but from this Aufkl. Panther? Imagine grinding enough exp to pass an entire tier with this lol. Grinding from this Tier7 to Tier9 would be worth a special and brand new masochist medal or the ultimate way to lose customers which actually might be WG's goal after all based on their concept of german tanks in this game.

  25. What sort of moron would even think a tanks ramming ability is of major importance - who the hell are these muppets they have testing this crap? Oh I know who, a bunch of Russians who want every German tank nerfed into oblivion so that their Russian tanks are 10x as good.

So now we are being given a tank that effectively has no offensive firepower and can only ram things; but it wont be able to even do that on live server because it will be spotted from hundreds of meters away and easily killed because its a slow ass panther ffs. Have you people ever tried to charge the enemy in a panther... LOL! Why don't they just remove the gun altogether and just be done with it. They should rename this tank to the "F**K YOU GERMAN TANK".

  26. Stupid concept for this AP... So the solution for other competitors is ramming. I wonder what will be tactics vs Heavy and Medium tanks. This will be a free XP move along tank for me. It has absolutely no use on paper, and im sure it won't have any gameplay use as i see the in the super test review. Brainless shit is what i see.

  27. :( the german tree will have something which is definetly NOT a light tank (lightly armoured, BUT: SMALL, easy to conceal, fast, manuverable) Its main main weapon will be RAMMING ... its a bloody bad joke

  28. I thought Japan tank should be "kamikaze" style... not German!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is there any info on the view range and the camo value?

  30. I've been stating the whole time on the NA forums that the tank will be decent. Not great, but not the horror show you've been portraying it as. Seems I was probably right.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So does WG do any follow up on whether or not they super testers actually grind the tank. I mean if WG doesn't - then why do they even ask?
