Poll results

Alright, the first FTR poll is officially over. What are its results?

First and foremost, lets look at Overlord's poll - after all, it was the inspiration for the one of mine. Overlord asked, what kinds of tanks do we want. His results were:

Votes: 2017
Expansion of current trees: 40 percent
Japanese tree: 16 percent
Mixed EU tree: 24 percent
Separated EU minitrees: 12 percent
Something else: 5 percent

This is a general result for the EU and NA server - I assume those are the people who read Overlord's blog. The "expansion of current trees" victory is not surprising - after all, this category includes the Leopard 1 branch, the German TD's, the British Firefly and other highly-requested vehicles. I am rather sure that if Overlord asked after their introduction, the results would be a lot, lot lower.

The result of the Japanese tree come (IMHO) mostly from the US server - while the US community has a strong "faction" focusing on Japanese tanks, such a "faction" is missing on the EU server. Altogether the Japanese tree result is unsurprising - if anything, I expected it to be lower (since the US server has nowhere near as many players as the EU one).

EU tree results - altogether 36 percent - are not surprising either. After all, 2 out of 3 biggest EU communities (Czech and Polish) don't have their own vehicles yet (unless you count the Panzer 35t and 38t, used by Germans, which is not exactly the same thing as having Czechoslovak crews). What is surprising is the difference between Overlord's poll and FTR poll. Here's how the FTR poll ended:

EU tree - what would you prefer?
Votes: 2006
Separate smaller national trees: 43 percent
One big EU supertree with everything mashed together: 56 percent

Here, the difference between audiences probably takes place. Only about 15 percent of this blog's readers are Americans, the rest is Europe and Asia (China, Vietnam, Hongkong, Korea - altogether roughly 5 percent). Thus, it can be concluded that the Europeans are much more in favour of the separate national minitrees than Americans (roughly 50:50), while Americans would prefer one big EU tree (roughly 75:25 or even more). This is logical due to the EU server demography.

It is already decided that the Japanese tree will come first (possibly end of 2013 or early 2014), but I really hope Wargaming takes a long hard look at their EU pre-concept and will start working on series of minitrees, leaving only the most exotic vehicles for the "EU mashup". After all, considering we do now have a Chinese tree (even though the Chinese civil war was brutal, original Chinese World of Tanks vehicles had very little impact on the world history of tank designs), Polish, Czechoslovak, Italian, Swedish, possibly Hungarian and other vehicles do warrant their own separate minitree as a tribute to the tank history contribution

  1. It will be hard to fill separate mini trees of EU nations with tier 1-10 tanks. While a big tree will allow them to have a lot of different tanks ranging from tier 1-10. The nations who used tanks the most in EU(Germany,Britain,France) already have their own tree. So I guess the new tree or trees will be filled with prototype and blueprint tanks. Like the Chinese.

    1. As far as I am concernet, that's not really a problem. The only issue is to actually find the prototypes. For example, the Hungarians have enough vehicles for a medium and TD branch, but the TDs and mediums are pretty much hardcapped at T8 with the Tas and 44M Tas TD.

    2. They might at cold war Warsaw pact and Nato loan tanks. Or captured and modified german tanks. Or just bullshit tanks like german tier 8 arty.

  2. regarding the one big EU tree
it's not about national pride, but I don't want small trees of every country
I would prefer a bigger EU tree

    1. Many EU countries will not see it as such."If the french, who lost in a month gets a full tree, why not us?" mentality will work their. Also in a mixed tree, crew nationalities will be a issue too.

    2. Well its not a second world war game so the the argument of them losing in a month is pretty invalid also it was 6 weeks. The french had a large selection of vehicles, prototypes and designs to choose from enough to fill all the trees adequately plus they are pretty unique from the other factions. The problem with the other EU nations each filling their own tree would be far too problematic and quite frankly boring. The Chinese issue again with soviet conversions and copies for many of the eastern European country's adds nothing really new or interesting to the game. Seeing all the slightly different t-34's used by minor nations is such a waste of time.

    3. crew nationalities would be an issue if WG would not know how to deal with it
and frankly I won't care if the crew is named EU crew or whatever country that tank was from

    4. So do I, the concept that 'Sven Jorgenson' will be driving around in an Italian tank, or Silvio Amenichi drives a Hungarian Heavy Tank is laughable.

    5. oh right, like it didn't happen
germans driving captured tanks from countries they conquered, they even had T-34s

Romania, alongside their own "tools" had italian bombers, german fighters and bombers, belgian weapons
after the war they had soviet tech

so .. who the fuck cares, REALLY!

    6. Nationality and name of tanker can be changed during retraining on new tank to have always Czech crewsonly in Czech tanks, Hungarian in Hungarian and so on.

    7. Yes Dead_Skin_Mask I agree with u. Ok its a little odd that new crew would get all the skills from old one but still. I understand that some nations want their own tree but the question is if they all have enought tanks for something like this. In my opinion every branch should have tanks from t1 to t10. Everything else is nonsense. Also i prefer unique tanks not some copies.

  3. i like the big tree, this is for various reasons. first of all, i fear it will be full of unknown tanks/paper projects to make them full, secondly not every off those little nations can have all branches, also seperate minitrees will cause whine like "Nation A has had theire tanks already for a year, and we still dont have ours, while we builded more tanks" or whatever stupid whine they will come up with.
Maybe it is also because the tank i badly wanted wont be in wot :( (stridsvagn 103) and what could bring a new breeze in low tier is a no as well (hallftracks as td or arty) and, im belgian, and there wont be ever a belgian tank tree lol

    1. Same goes for the Dutch... Never built a tank...

    2. Actually the Belgians built a TD called T.13 on British Vickers-Carden-Loyd artillery tractors.

  4. Well in both polls one big tree has more votes then small trees. Also so far WG is making only full trees (i.e. till tier X and with SPG, TD lines).

I would prefer minitrees, but as there is no minitrees in this game, I vote for one tree. Thats much better then dozens never build tanks and numerous copies of M47, PzIV, T-54 and so on.

  5. I think the important reason WHY so many people would vote for a pan-Euro tree over indiviual european national trees is primarily because:
    A) They know how long it would take and are willing to sacrifice a proper or functional Italian, Czech tree in favour of a pan-European tree which would be quicker., and
    B) There is undoubtedly a huge amount of ignorance (I don't mean nationalistic bickering which is plentiful)as to the fact that there are sufficient tanks to create certainoly a Czech and Italian trees and possibly Hungarian, and Swedish trees.
Your blog helps debunk 'B' but unfortunately 'A' remains due to developers time and total stranglehold on information.

    1. Actually - the A is quite the contrary. Developers already stated they'd like single-nation branches. If they want to put it all into one tree, they'll probably try to wait until the basics for all branches are developed, so they don't release f.x. Czech branch before Polish, because the Polish would be annoyed. Eg. one big tree does not give any time advantage at all even for those who don't care, what nation the tanks belong to.

    2. i always asumed mixed eu tree realy meant that one given tank in a branch is succeeded by a next one wich can be difrent nationality eg: tier 2 td is polish, tier 3td is cwech, tier 4td is italian,..

      Delete
    3. " There is undoubtedly a huge amount of ignorance"

Well it is contrary, I know how huge gaps are in national material for full trees and I already can see how WG fill this gaps with fantasy and imports. This is why Silenstalker was writing about minitrees. But so far WG makes only full trees and Overlord was sceptic towards minitrees (reason - people will whine why they tree has no X tier). So please, tell me which tank can be X tier in Hungarian tree or in Polish or X tier heavy in Czech tree. The only way to make proper tree with X tiers in every line is European tree, where we can use Swiss and Swedish vehicles to make X tier mediums, heavies, SPG's and TD's.

    4. DSM, it has been stated many times by the devs (even Overlord) that some trees do not need ALL the branche types, eg. Czech tree can stay without heavies. Plus, it would be silly to require this anyway, the only branch with serious heavy tank possibilities in the EU tree is the Swedish one.

      Delete
    5. So far I see that they work on inventing Chinese SPG and TD to offer us more imports and fantasy. So they do smth totally different, they forcfully try to make all lines even when it has no sense.

  6. I really don't see the need to have every tree make it to Tier 10. I think WG overestimate the attraction to people of playing their nation's tanks at that level. Yes, where they exist, get to T10. If they don't, stop where they naturally cease, with maybe a lead into the tanks of other nation's tanks that they subsequently imported, at a higher XP cost.
For example, if Hungarian tanks don't make it past Tier 8 from home produced tanks, but historically then imported/used Russian tanks, then put the line into, lets say, the T54. (Please, I know nothing about what the Hungarians did, just using a notional example).
I just think it would make enthusiasts much happier, the game play and WG much richer, to promote individual national lines for tank enthusiasts. With each release they can do a local marketing push, and players like me with OCD will have to own them because they're there. The game looks TOO structured right now and it's getting a bit samey. A bit of additional interesting stuff that isn't structured just like all that went before would be a welcome relief.

  7. I don't really care if Polish tankers are driving a Swedish tank in a mixed tree, or if the tanks switch nations every tier like the chinese. Having trees which end in tier 8 is not an issue either.

As an American what I do I care about practicality and the problem I have with individual trees is that the crews would not be interchangeable. The national pride issue can be solved by having a crew switch to the nationality of whatever tank they are in, if there are 5 nations have the rng generate 5 sets of names and faces for the crew when they are recruited, or just letting people pick the nationality of their crew. If people want to drive only their nationality they can only tier up to those tanks. If a tournament comes up and I need a crew for a tier 6 Italian tank then next week a tier 8 czech one it will be easy to switch the crew if they are in the same tree.

If there are seperate trees I will probably be hesitant griding them, it is too much work for too few tanks. I would imagine WG wouldn't want to introduce something which would only have limited appeal either, it is too much work for too little money. A pan European tree would appeal to all tankers with competitive and interesteing tanks at all tiers and something for all the enthusiasts/nationalists as well.

  8. There are enough tanks for a separate swedish line. Light and medium with a few tds, artys and heavies as sideshoots. There are Stridsvagn 103 (s) and a bunch of planned projects thar could be tier 10 easily

  9. 10/10 would vote:

1.EU tree for Italian tanks, still waiting for at least a premium introduced into game.

2.Progression on current trees for German Nashorn tank destoryer and French AMX 30 medium tank.

3.Something else, Israeli tanks. Would like Super Shermans and modified Centurions.

All stuff I want, all stuff I will continue to wait for... =/

  10. Okay so for those who claim they wouldn't care if a Swedish crew is an Italian tank imagine how they would feel if I put saw an Arab crew in their American tank or Negroes in a Soviet tank or something.
They should see their own inherent xenophobia before condesending to everyone else they they should just put up and shut up with what WoT deems worthy to hand out.

    1. 95% of Americans could care less, I don't know about the soviets. However considering American tanks were sold to Arab countries and Soviet tanks to African ones I don't see why anyone would care. In fact the people who do care about things like that should be forced to endure it. Maybe they could become better human beings for learning not to be internet tank crew racists.

Plus think of all the gold they could make for crew profile switching for the extra ignorant.
