Q&A - Storm Special


Storm discusses what pisses people off. Basically it's a huge Q&A brainstorm. Here's the info, gleaned from the comment section:

SS: RU players are asking all sorts of weird and useless bullshit. The prevalent issue people have a beef with seems to be the "sticky" gun barrel (resp. aiming circle) when near some buildings.

- there are no more game modes planned (SS: apart from historical and garage battles), Storm states it's just too big an undertaking, while the developers have many small things to work on
- in the hangar, a mechanism will be implemented to allow players to pre-set their tanks into groups for easier selection
- the "bug" where the aim sticks to a nearby object and slides along them in arcade more (SS: nearby a building the aim goes up for example) cannot be fixed, as it is one of the fundamental flaws of the engine (SS: the issue originates in the fact that while the sniper mode works with the gun axis itself, the arcade mode doesn't, it works with different gun and camera angles and the corellation between them causes the issue)
- the "invisible" flat rail wagons in Ensk will be made brighter
- there will be a new "tank is burning" effect to make the fact the tank is on fire more clear, when it's done it's done
- text chat in battle is not planned to be switcheable off, because it would reduce team interaction
- tracers will recieve a complete overhaul
- it could be possible to remove one map from the random pool - two and more create bad issues during the teammaking phase
- the bug where when you buy gold ammo for silver and switch turret on the vehicle, the currency switches back to gold will be fixed in 8.4
- Storm states that night battles look cool, but gameplay-wise they are really bad
- there will be a sound effect remake, for example special sounds when tracks are hit, when gun is hit etc.
- no random battles skill MM ever!
- no solid gun barrels
- vertical tech tree won't return
- there will be no general limits on the amount of one type of vehicle in companies/CW/etc
- Storm has an idea already how to fix the excessive gun swinging when the vehicle moves over broken surface
- devs are okay with the amount of "paper" tanks and with the game economy
- CS-strike modes (bomb-defuse, VIP assassination) cannot be handled by random players, the game is aimed at casuals, a part of the game playerbase never played games before
- the platoon flood in some battles is not regarded as an issue
- serial AFKers will be punished more, devs already worked out some measures to fight them
- no special client version needed with lowered textures, Storm thinks it's enough to set the textures to minimum
- tank position update frequency (so tanks don't "teleport") won't be changed
- the plans to introduce popular mods directly into the game are being studied, it's not yet sure which mods, it's also not clear whether these mods will be introduced for everyone (SS: as in "maybe only for professional progamerer accounts?)
- no new shell types are planned
- applique armor module won't come in 2013 - takes too much work
- Storm likes the "Strategist music" battle chatter soundtrack, but states it's not for everyone and some find it distracting
- all tank visual models will be re-worked in the future for better detail
- the premium hightier Soviet medium tank will be a T-44 prototype with 85mm gun, won't come in near patches, but it will come in 2013 (SS: So I was right :))
- teamdamage punishment system (from ramming) can't be fully automatic as it is impossible to always determine who's to blame
- working lights on tanks (weather etc.) - not in forseeable future
- ingame MP3 player won't be implemented
- dynamic tank naming (SS: Panzer IV with short 75 = Ausf.D, with long Ausf.F2 etc) got scrapped, it would cause confusion
- devs didn't get any proper suggestions how to handle the impact of heavy shells on very light targets (apart from the 3-caliber rule). A player suggested that during a ricochet of very large shell on thin armor, the shell does 25 percent of damage. Storm replies: "And players will whine: 'Why did the tank reflector/box/armor screen/crewmember/dog ate my shell damage?' It would lead to confusion. We thought about it and refused."
- the battle start timer won't be made shorter, as many players use the time to identify the team and tactics
- armor cracking (SS: thinner armor on spots that have been hit previously) won't be implemented
- realistic engine sounds (from real tanks) - not anytime soon, as it is really too complicated, there are very few running condition tanks left
- +-25 pen/dmg random factor won't change
- crewmember models won't be implemented into the game
- trollplatoons won't be disabled (eg. no limit on what tanks can platoon with what)
- multiturret mechanism is not planned until 2015
- low-tier HEAT shells will get a nerf
- Sixth sense won't be remade so it would keep the lightbulb icon lit for the whole time the tank is spotted, it would be imbalanced

    1. Well... 10,5 HEAT shells really need some serious balancing.

    2. The best thing is that you can buy hundreds of premium ammo for half the credits sometimes. I cannot refuse it to blow away tanks while using HEAT AND still make profit because my depot is full of discount-heat.

    3. I still profit on full price HEAT shells, discounted ones are pure gravy.

    4. If really op. why they let them troll entire servers nearly 1/4 year? They let 105 derp users rape others. Why? Sory but WG has epic fail morale.

  3. Yeah, that´s confusing... They already modelled the T-35, but they dont want to implement Multiturrets until 2015?

    I can understand if they say that they are difficult to balance (there are some extreme French drawings).. technically? easy.. because World of Battleships needs multiturret as well and it will run on the same engine.

    The question here I would ask for is why they won't implement it as mostly it screws the teams that they are put into... they aren't punished by any unfair tickets either. I can't fathom why they won't implement a BT counter so people would see their tanks battletier as numbers in the garage and/or platoon screen, this would disperse many problems with players not understanding why they are in a match they should not be. Also limiting tanks that can battle to connecting battle tiers ( like limiting company battles from accepting tanks with too high tiers ) would atleast take half the problems.

    And yes this is a problem for a game that is supposed to be fun, there is no fun for 12/13 others when one of their tank is close to afk/idle/nonexistant for battle outcome. Maybe fun for 1-2 platoon mate, but not for majority.

    1. You don't understand how MM works. If there's a troll platoon in one team, say they are tier 6 and the trolls bring a loltractor, this decreases the combined weight of the entire team significantly. Now there's two things the matchmaker can do to balance it out - either the entire opposing team will be weaker (the wight hit will be distributed more or less evenly along the entire team) so mostly 5-4 tiers, or they will receive one low tier tank. The former is what the trolls hope for as it creates an unfair advantage FOR (not against) the team which has the low tier tank.

    2. Well actually MM has other tricks on its sleeve just for this. Tank weights between teams CAN be 10% in difference ( Full 15 T10 tanks means there is 187 points to balance for which ever team that could mean other team had 2 last tanks only T5 scouts ). So it is gamble of luck. And most often this 10% deficient goes against these trollers.

    1. No he didnt. There was some more explaining and chatter (at some points quite extensive), I usually just didn't bother to translate it.

    2. you covered 40+ points out of witch 20 were replied with "no" or other variation of "no"

    3. Well, it's important to know what NOT to expect, so people don't ask the same stuff over and over. The real discussion didn't happen around the classical "no" answers such as skill MM.

    4. I don't expect much of them besides few issues:

      MM based on skill - they already said no, but I don't care; I'm tired beying forced to play with braindead monkeys
      zero dmg shots - these exist since CBT
      complete overhaul of the spotting system

    5. forgot removal of gold ammo from random battles

  7. This is just a bunch of 'will nots' and 'can'ts'. Are the devs even working on this game anymore? (Cash-in tech trees don't count)

    I see that there is probably many fresh players asking questions. So many things that were answered many times and it is know that they are no go for dev team (like crewmembers models, skill based MM, the problems with aim and close objects and many more)

    1. Yep just guess, for the usual player wot is juts a game "like CS, but with tanks".
      Armors, angling, ammo types, view range... etc. these are all "woodoo things" for them.
      Dynamic tank naming? They won't understand why so much different tank names, although their icons are the same.

      (by the way, what would happen with not historical tank+gun configurations?)

    How sad to see this game being tuned more end more towards (or should I say 'only towards') bringing in new costumers.

    In the last 7 days:
    Only 10% of the games played are played by players with more that 1.000 battles.
    Less than 3% of the games played are played by players with more that 5.000 battles.
    0.8% of the games played are played by players with more that 10.000 battles.

    It's no wonder we feel left behind and forgotten by WG, and now it is even official.
