- Q: "KV-1S with 122mm is not historical"
A: "Home-educated experts, huh?" (and SerB adds the picture of 122mm KV-1S)
- the vehicle on the above picture is KV-122 by the way. It's possible that in time, KV-1S will move to tier 5 and will become a hull module option for the KV-1 for more historicity
- SerB states that the "maps are being remade for arty to better hits tanks behind covers" is just a conspiracy theory
- SerB states that during war and post-war firing tests in Kubinka, no side-effects of Zimmerit were ever confimed. Recently, very simple tests were made with magnets and it was found out that Zimmerit has no effect on magnetic mines. It's possible the whole Zimmerit project was made for other reasons
SS: to explain this - there are various theories and hoaxes running around about Zimmerit. The most common are that Zimmerit caused more vehicle fires when shot - it didn't - and that Zimmerit caused enemy shells to penetrate better - again, it didn't. Personally, from what I could find out, in very thick layers (we are talking 5cm or so, which noone applied on tanks), Zimmerit can probably disrupt magnetic mines (just like a piece of wood of the same thickness would), but it doesn't have any side effects and in the setup Germans used it was useless. Nevertheless, some Allies (Americans I think) actually thought that since Germans do it, it must have SOME use and therefore started using captured stock at one point. I believe that the common WW2 author consensus is that it useless. Looked good tho.
- SerB doesn't consider the Saukopfblende gun mantlet (Jagdpanzer IV for example) underpowered
- Jagdtiger hull thickness won't be buffed
- Mark IX Centurion turret is different from Mark 2,3,7
- theoretically the L7 could fit into Mark 2,3,7 Centurion turrets (won't be implemented)
- it's possible Centurion will have its speed increased to 48 km/h
- it's possible (and desired by SerB) that the Chieftain prototype will be introduced into the game, they are looking for proper data for 6 months already, SerB promised to rush the search
- the FV215b 183 won't probably have its ammo capacity increased to 15 pieces
- SerB states that the fact that Himmelsdorf houses are so close to each other is historical and based on old German cities
- SerB doesn't consider the Sturmpanzer II with gold ammo overpowered in 8.6
- SerB admits that the 198 pen for 75mm L/70 was not historical, it will also likely not be solved by using APCR shells for the gun as silver ammo (also unrealistic for 1945)
- the new camo system rollback was caused by a great amount of bugs in camo
- when various models of one tank with different setups (turrets, guns) historically had various numbers of crewmembers (KV-13, Hetzer), the crew amount obviously remains the same. Developers know about this and don't consider it too important, unlike errors in vehicle armor.
- SerB states that they are TRYING not to change premium vehicles, but they do have the possibility according to Terms of Use
- will teamkillers be punished more? "If necessery. We decide what's necessery."
- theoretically, some nations could have 2nd arty lines - but that won't be implemented for now
- on unhistorical E50M: "If you find us a more historical E50M, we will immediately put it into the game" (SS: how did that Weserhütte E-75 go, Zarax and Daigensui? Did anyone on Russian forums mention it?)
- currently, modelling works has begun on the Japanese branch (SS: the German TD's are allegedly already modelled)
- (as a sum of several SerB's posts) SerB basically doesn't care about the Superpershing shitstorm, he mentioned that he developed immunity to whining
- the increased accuracy for guns is fine according to SerB
- the speed of sound (delays between shots and sound) might eventually be implemented into the game, but has a low priority
- the "invisible enemies" camo bug has been found and fixed
- it's not yet clear whether the British tier 8 premium tank will be a medium, or a heavy
- for now the Lowe will not be removed from the shop
- SerB states that it's normal for vehicles to be rebalanced after a while when they come out on live server, test server is not enough to balance them once and for all
- SerB confirms that the source for E50M was Spielberger's book, but also states that the project from the book did not meet success and had to be "further developed" by WG
Bonus: Vallter (one of the developers) on the new reward system
Hi all!
I've seen a lot of questions all over the forums regarding the following message on Public Test server:
I've seen a lot of questions all over the forums regarding the following message on Public Test server:
In this post you may find some explanations to this.
The case is that in 8.6 we enable a new functional for automatic in-game events - 'Missions'. Shortly, these are combat tasks, for completing which players will receive certain award. There are lots of variants for Mission conditions that allow us to create really interesting challenges. In the same time there are a lot of awards, which may be received for completing this missions. In future we will even add some unique things....
You will be able to check them out on the live server in July (most probably). Currently we are just testing the functional on Public Test that's why no specific announcement was made. We want to test as much parts of the functional as possible, that's why missions are quite easy, different, and provide lots of rewards.
I would share more with you, but I cannot atm. Stay tuned and follow our official portals in order to receive more information in future.
Thank you for reading and... What are your thoughts on this?
Best regards,
Vallter
SerB wins! :D
ReplyDeleteIf you take the KV-1S and you remake the entire hull and mount a completely different turret on it (KV-85). Then you mount a 122mm gun on that for trials (KV-122). What part of that tank is a KV-1S?
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious.
the tracks ?
DeleteThat's what the Russian players were complaining about. KV-122 is in fact (AFAIK) a KV-1S predecessor. Honestly, this wasn't too important for me, but if you want, I can look into SerB's opinion on this further.
DeleteAFAIK the hull was mostly the same as regular KV-1S, with enlarged turret ring, moving the machine gun from the left to the right and removing the position of radio operator being pretty much all the modifications made.
DeleteTanks having 2 turrets available is normal in-game. KV-1S is not the only one that would require modifying the turret ring.
But the modifications to the hull were pretty big. The turret ring was too wide for the hull so they had to widen the midsection of the hull. They removed the hull machine gun (didn't move it) and as you mentioned removed the radio operator.
DeleteAdditionally my KV-1S in the game without extra equipment weighs about 44 tons. The KV-85 weighed 46 tons, and that's with the 85mm D-5T gun. So WG is obviously basing their in-game weight on the KV-1S just adding some arbitrary weight for the 122mm gun. The KV-122 would land at over 47 tons.
As per normal, they have a very selective approach to realism.
"The 122mm was mounted on a KV-1S based hull lol lol lol"
"Oh, by the way. We shaved off about 3 tons of weight because we didn't feel the 122mm D-2-5T was OP enough at tier 6."
If im right, the Zimmerit project was to prevent the enemy from sticking sticky bombs to the tanks
ReplyDeleteNo. It was designed against magnetic mines.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThe effect on Zimmerit didnt depend on the thickness of it, but more on the grooves that where made into it. Those "grooves" would give the magnetic mine a smaller surface to stick to, so they would fall off by own weight or when the tank was driving due to bumps. Zimmerit was also mostly field-applied, which probably decreased its effectiveness since crews mostly didnt really knew what they where doing and didnt applied it correctly. That it has no effect was not entirely true, correctly applied Zimmerit could (!, not saying did) really prevent magnetic mines from sticking sufficiently, so it actually had "some" use. How much, well, thats not me to decide.

Chieftain Prototype, hell yea!
ReplyDeleteAll glory to SerB...
but it's a WG Chieftain......we all know this will be epically shite and it wouldn't be a surprise if it became a prem tank
DeleteI wonder how hard will the missions be? (:
ReplyDeletelike "Destroy 3 Mouse tanks with E-25" hard (trollface)
Delete"Reward: 300 credits" trolololo
Deleteorzel286_eu
they announced the missions, but only in the russian page.
ReplyDeletehttp://worldoftanks.ru/ru/news/1/8_6_common_test/
just after the video.
1-3 june was "+750 combat xp with t10"
3-5 junte is "2k damage done"
according what google traslator says :P
Zimmeritt was active camouflage. I ran a whole thread on it on the NA forum some time ago: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/135768-zimmerit-on-german-tanks/page__fromsearch__1
ReplyDeleteZimmeritt is neither flammable nor useful against magnets or sticky bombs.
-Vollketten
Yes, there is quite a bit of evidence to support that zimmeritt was intended to break up visual recognition, specifically for enemy observer aircraft / ground attack, so that the regular flat panel surfaces of tanks which would ordinarily reflect sunlight (glints) would be reduced from the groovings/irregularity of the zimmeritt application
DeleteI find that explanation to be the most likely reason for it
In that case Zimmerit wouldn't be laid on lower frontal plate but crews would apply it on top of the hull and turret.
DeleteWeserhutte research is at a standstill, however I think something close to E-50M would have come out of it.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I'm still looking for is a better tier X medium gun choice instead of the fantasy pseudo-L7.
Still, they based their tank on the exact same data, what I would have done different is the tier IX, as the first prototype was supposed to be based on a Tiger II hull.
If only Pasholok was a little bit more collaborative WOT could improve a lot in historical accuracy and gameplay...
Tier IX E-50 is pretty close to what the Germans had in mind for the first versions.
DeletePerhaps you should add somewhere a donations highscore/hall of fame.
ReplyDeleteChieftain Prototype....I have been crossing my fingers for this announcement for month's. SerB is now off my shit list...
ReplyDeleteNot only the thickness of Zimmerit count against the magnetic mines, but rather the rough surface it composed on the armour
ReplyDelete"- currently, modelling works has begun on the Japanese branch (SS: the German TD's are allegedly already modelled)"
ReplyDeleteOh hell yes, I'm looking forward to both the Japanese tanks and the German TD's. Especially the Japanese tanks.
The rewards system is intriguing. We're playing the game anyway, might as well earn freebies - as long as it doesn't make people act like morons (even more than they do now of course).
ReplyDeleteWirbelwind42 - NA Server
Also its possible that picture can be fake like made with photoshop. When you look the background behind the tank it looks so much poorer quality than tank. That little thing makes me bit sceptical, nor have I ever found any piece of information that KV-1s had long barreled 122mm gun.
ReplyDeleteIf it's a shop, then it's a very good one, as I can't find any points that could look inconsistent. Though if you look at lots of WW2 pics, you'll find that many times the background looks exactly like the one you see here.
DeleteWas the KV-1S with the 122 mm gun ever tested in the field to begin with?
DeleteMissions system looks nice, but I hope there won't be like one task for every player, but something different for everyone. Cause, if task would be kill M4, noone would play it.
ReplyDeleteThe answer regarding ZImmerit ("Recently, very simple tests were made with magnets and it was found out that Zimmerit has no effect on magnetic mines") is nonsense.
ReplyDeleteZimmerit is non-magnetic, by applying it to ferromagnetic object (such as hull of a tank ...) you increase the distance between magnet and ferromagnetic material. Since magnetic force diminishes in strength with cube of distance, even a small increase can make magnet considerably less effective )and large increase in distance even more so). If a mine cannot cling to tank hull anymore and is shaken off by vehicle vibration, it won't punch through the tank but instead explode some distance away on the ground.
That's all there is to Zimmerit, it doesn't do magic (like repel magnets), just basic elementary school physics.
You can try it out yourself by using a magnet and sticking it to ferromagnetic object (screwdriver, nail, key, whatever), and then inserting a folded magazine between magnet and the object. At some point you will stuff enough non-magnetic material (paper) inbetween that the magnet will no longer cling to the object if you wave it around a bit, but will fall off.
What is interesting is that they could have eliminated the magnetic field on the tanks like that of a small ship by canceling out the field with wire and current. And then the tank would be demagnetized for a few months before needing it to be done again.
DeleteDegaussin: The process of decreasing or eliminating a remnant magnetic field.
But it would have been time consuming and a pain to do every few months. From what I remember a small ship was good for something like 6 months after the process was carried out. The process was used to protect the ship from magnetic mines. Some larger ships just carried the equipment on board for use all the time.
NEMO.
"it's possible Centurion will have its speed increased to 48 km/h"
ReplyDeleteHey SS can you somehow find out if this buff is meant for the tier 8 centurion or the tier 8 AND 9 centurion or maybe the tier 8, 9 AND 10 centurion?
Zee7
To the Zimmerit I found this:
ReplyDeletehttp://web.archive.org/web/20071005162036/http://www.afvnews.ca/zimmerit.html
It says "Zimmerit was against magnetic mines". :)
The engineer approves it!

ReplyDeletethanks for listening.

KV-1S a hull-modification of the tier 5 KV-1? If it keeps the 122mm in that scenario, I sincerely hope they give the 1S hull mod different matchmaking brackets. That 122 already has gives it way too much alpha for that tank at tier 6. I can't imagine how OP it'd be as a tier 5.
ReplyDeleteNo. If i understand this right, the KV-122 with 122mm Gun will stay on T6, and the Chassis "KV-1S" will be moved to T5 as an optional hull module.
DeleteZimmerit is a spacer the groves help to increase the apace and make it difficult for a magnetic mine to hold a grip due to a lack of surface area to grab and due to a distance from the steel. Because magnets only have soo much strength. Its like putting a magnet on each side of your hand. If you have too much space between them it will not attract one another and they will fall off your hand.
ReplyDeleteNot rocket science as its well understood. Just go play with magnets.
NEMO.
Just look at wood boards on a Sherman.
Delete"SerB ... , he mentioned that he developed immunity to whining"
ReplyDeletelol, so why are they nerfing the already weakest class even more if not for a boatload of whiny idiots in heavy tanks?
"artillery" + "weakest class"
Deletedoes not compute
cry more, farty noob, if anything, farty's getting buffed
what a witty/cunning comment ... ya got bachelor in humour ?
Delete- it's possible (and desired by SerB) that the Chieftain prototype will be introduced into the game, they are looking for proper data for 6 months already, SerB promised to rush the search
ReplyDeleteFinally the News taht one had been waiting for! Let’s hope they see sense and use it to replace that pile of Crap the FV215b and not make it a CW reward tank; Hence unobtainable for the vast majority that play the Game. To have the Chieftain (yes I know prototype) in the game, knowing that one would never realistically be able to obtain it would be so soul destroying that one would most probably stop playing the game!
Let see...
ReplyDeletePz.IV's 10,5 cm gun was "OP" for it's tier... it does about 400 dam to light and med tanks with R.R.O. shells. To heavies about 200-300 dam.
Now KV-1S will do 400+ in tier V?? Oh sorry... I know it is not OP, only russian...
WG would do better if they do another type of balance. They should add more tech trees. There are lots of tanks from other nations. For exaample, Italians, Swiss, etc.
But I think new branch of smileys come sooner than these vehicles!
