Hello everyone,
around a week ago, I made a poll about what the World of Tanks players listen to. 1673 people answered and let me tell you, the results kinda surprised me. The most surprising fact for me is that while 23 percent of people don't listen to anything at all (how can you stand it?), 20 percent actually listen to the ingame soundtrack. Don't you find it a bit... dull, generic?
Either way, it seems that a lot of World of Tanks players are rockers, because 26 percent of all players listen to rock/rock'n roll and 30 percent to metal. Rock on! :) 12 percent listen to dance music, 7 percent to house and - surprise - 8 percent listen to classical music.
What people generally don't listen to: pop music, hiphop (thanks god its era is over, I hate that shit), country music (well, no surprise there) and nation-specific music (what, no chalga?!).
15 percent of players listen also to something else (what?).
Thank you for participating :)
J-rock FTW!
ReplyDeleteYEAH finally someone with taste :)
DeleteSame here
DeleteJ-rock and Iron Maiden!!!!!!!! I cant stand a WoT battle without some epic Maiden :)
Delete-EmperorSafirius
PS: @SS, u said a couple of weeks back that u also listen to AC/DC and the sorts. Well, it seems we have extremly similar music tastes ;)
Yea I do, usually I run a whole discography.
DeleteWell in that case, mind if I ask you, which is your fav Maiden album? :)
Delete-EmperorSafirius
Piece of Mind
DeleteI usually run without music, it helps me concentrate better. For enjoyment's sake, i chose classical - i find it to be the most pleasure inducing genre out there
Deleteyeah metal ftw
DeleteCool, I guess I should listen to rock music too to keep the aggressiveness meter high.
ReplyDeleteI just listen to in game music and actually a low one so I can observe, think, and act appropriately.
http://youtu.be/v_FJEoXwkNE :)
ReplyDeleteSabaton FTW!
ReplyDeleteI answered "something else", since I run the game with a mixed genre playlist and saw that as a appropriate descriptor :D
ReplyDeletesmth else means u listen to angry wife and kids;]
ReplyDeletei would like to suggest for next poll, what is your age? since i tend to believe the audience from wot, and especialy on dedicated places like this is actualy a lot older then one might think.
ReplyDeleteGood idea
DeleteThis is slowly turning into Overlord's blog except SS is more personable and much more active XP
Deletelistening to something else:
ReplyDeleteambient and many substyles of ambient
I have usually M*A*S*H on background :)
ReplyDeletemusic distracts!
ReplyDeleteWhat? All kinds of electro music. SS, your knowledge in music is really limited=)
ReplyDeleteWell, I listen to rock, country and folk, none of that young folks' stuff :)
Deleted@b :D
ReplyDelete-abacs21
wow how did I put a @ there..
Deleteedit: d&b D:
The most surprising fact for me is that while 23 percent of people don't listen to anything at all (how can you stand it?)
ReplyDeleteI've got top gear voices, which are - well - top gear :D and team speak. Good enough for me.

ReplyDeleteuh... well... ya
Gong,Ozric Tentacles, Hawkwind, Amun Duul, Steve Hillage, 13th Floor Elevators, Zappa, The missus banging on about playing "that stupid tank game"
ReplyDeleteDude I have 5 guitars, I listen to all kinds of music, rock, pop, metal and hip hop, and I hate shitty people, that hate music generes that they don't like.
ReplyDeleteYou are a hater, bc you can't just call sth shitty without giving a reason.
And rap music is far more complex than you think, alot of it needs more skill than playing 3 power chords and screaming to the microphone, and that's how 80% of rock music is made.
I have one guitar I never learned to play properly and I hate rap. So? Who cares? :)
DeleteA good rush + Sabaton´s "Ghost Division" (or sth. else) = poor fun xD
ReplyDelete"PURE fun"
DeleteFixed it for you. ;)
*facepalm*
Deleteyes, thank you *shame on me*
How did you found out about turbofolk? If you're listening turbofolk I'll stop visiting this blog :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteI don't. I just heard it on TV once and thought it's Bulgarian popfolk and my then-girlfriend got terribly upset I can't tell Serbian (I think it was) from Bulgarian. Couldn't forget it afterwards even if I tried...
DeleteNow I can continue visiting this magnificent blog!
DeleteTS + music = confusing, bad play xD
ReplyDeleteWell, there is nothing wrong in general with Hip Hop, it's just that new shit (most of 2000+ stuff) which calls itself "rap/hip-hop" (and isn't) sucks so much they are even secretly playing it in vacuum cleaners for maximized sucking effect.
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to it very much or that, but sadly most new records of any style get shittier every year :(
Regarding the in-game soundtrack - yes, that's why I like it, it just adds a little bit of flavour, but does not take away the focus :)
Best tank music!

*april fools*
I replied Rock, Metal, and Something other.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Something other in my case? Well, movie and game soundtracks mostly, many militaristic music themes fits to WoT very nicely. Best example would be main theme of the movie Crimson Tide.
I do listen to some stuff no and then but rare the ingame music is okay to me just I like hearing the Tank & Tanker voices i suppose and it's abit tough with outta place music maybe it's just me..hm
ReplyDeletePunctuation is your friend. Use it.
DeletePunctuation wasn't my strong suit.
Deletedubstep and dnb
ReplyDeleteI have 1 hour of soviet music that i listen while playing
ReplyDeleteI'm a rocker thru and thru dude ! Van Halen (not Hagar) ... :)
ReplyDeleteI listen to the in-game soundtrack. It doesn't distract me, but it adds to the atmosphere. And I love the silence in the garage.
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to any music, so it doesn't disrupt me from hearing friends i play with via TeamSpeak.
ReplyDeleteSilentstalker, does WG actually leak some tanks themselves in the tech trees?
ReplyDeletehttp://worldoftanks.eu/media/show/303/
That picture is very old, I wouldn't bother with it.
DeleteBlack Sabbath - "Iron Man" or "Paranoid" and AC/DC "Thunderstruck" and "Hells Bells"!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice.
Delete@SS, too bad you chose to act like the worst type of ignorant. I guess you missed my post in the first topic about the music poll, were i was explaining in a few words that hip-hop is not music. You should know that Mtv doesn't make musical education and it promotes only comercial crap. I assure you that good rap music really exists, but only for the ones who know to be selective, therefore your opinion about it is irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteI noticed but truth to be told, it makes no real difference to me. After all, what is "real rap"? Some people praise Tupac as the best rapper and whatnot, but all I've seen when I looked at his lyrics is a frustrated racist negro, babbling about selling drugs and murdering white people. I really am not a "rap" person, no matter how commercial on uncommercial it is.
Deletesometimes i have YT running in the backgroung
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ1GzvLUBKQ
poll suggestion: what is your favorite tech tree?
ReplyDeleteBoring. Would end up 25 Soviet 30 German 25 American and 20 everything else
DeleteMost of the time when I listen to music while playing, I listen to new arrangements of video game music. Mostly Touhou but also old-school arcade classics like After Burner II.
ReplyDeleteNow it all starts to make sence. With the verly agressive mind numing music that most peopl have admitted to listening to. I finaly understand the zombie like performance of approx 40% of the player base.
ReplyDeleteWell, the cold hard truth is that a lot of people play not to win, but to relax and relax means as little brain activity as possible :)
Delete"15 percent of players listen also to something else (what?)."
ReplyDeleteEpic music :P
Audiomachine, Two Steps from Hell, Immediate music, Future World Music and many other like these. here's my youtube playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1E4FDF6BDB6D31E8
Thanks, I'll have a look at it :)
DeleteI'm a Metal-Lover, and when and when i use my ELC AMX I listen to things like this
ReplyDeletehttp://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/513907
Adrenaline power!
Newgrounds in an awesome source of music, art and games
DeleteThe Newgrounds music does not have copyright,in fact you can dowload it no problem,
and there's so many, man, I love that site!
I mostly listen to old Rock like Jimi Hendrix etc. Not metal. I also listen to some "classical" music that are either from the Red Army Choir or some German orchestra. Classical songs like 1812 Overture is also a good example.
ReplyDeleteOh, and don't forget Lord of the Rings Soundtrack!
DeleteThe default music is dull and bland after listening to it for 3000 games...but it is familiar and comfortable, and responds to the ramp up of tension in the game. Nothing else is needed.
ReplyDeleteHowever, thank you for having the "nation specific" entry, because I had never heard of "Serbian Turbo Folk", and got many great hours of exploration out of those three words.
Come here and you can explore all our "splavovi" until you get sick of our shit music :( :( :( Death to turbofolk!!!
DeleteUsing gold ammo on derp guns.
ReplyDelete..Gangsta rap made me do it.
When in doubt, say Norwegian black metal...
ReplyDeleteI keep the radio on in the background, tuned to a station goes by the name of "Radio Rock". Their content tends to be a tad more varied than the name might suggest, though; one of their regular features is a weekly "guest DJ" corner, where they play through a list picked by someone more or less famous - and what the guest chooses goes regardless of genre or whatnot. Plus the veteran music reporter who does their assorted "thematic" regular evening features is in the habit of playing anything and everything under the sun, from old interwar "schlagers" to Elvis to newest death metal...
ReplyDeleteAnd then I listen to Touhou soundtrack remixes off Youtube which probably makes me a terrible, terrible weeaboo. :P
"And then I listen to Touhou soundtrack remixes off Youtube which probably makes me a terrible, terrible weeaboo. :P"
DeleteIt makes you someone with impeccable taste in music. :D
Which are your favourite themes?
The two are hardly mutually exclusive you know... ;)
DeleteEhh, what can I name off the top of my head... "Soul As Red As A Ground Cherry", "Centennial Festival For Magical Girls", "U. N. Owen", "Doll Judgement", "Mystic Oriental Dream", "Deaf To All But The Song", "Cinderella Cage", "Fall of Fall", "Suwa Foughten Field", "Lullaby of Deserted Hell"...
Also honorary mention to "Rose-killing Carmilla" from Touhouvania 2 even if the lyrics, as usual with Remilia-related pieces, could do with less AAAAAANGST. (But then it's not like I read the subtitles when playing.)
As far as the remixes go most of the above have good ones, plus there's a number of epic ones for "Septette For the Dead Princess" and "Tiger-Patterned Bishamonten".
My favourites are "Border of Life" and "Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke". But there are so many other fantastic ones like "Higan Retour ~ Riverside View", "Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial" and "Shanghai Alice of Meiji 17".
DeleteZUN is an amazing composer and I can honestly say I've yet to find a bad theme of his.
As for the fan arrangement groups, I tend to like the works of UI-70, Demetori, SOUND HOLIC, SYNC.ART'S and Silver Forest.
"Higan Retour" is pretty nice, agreed. Not a big fan of most of the other PoFV themes though (Mystia's aside) so I end up rarely opening that particular playlist - should probably make a separate one for the pieces that make for good WoT BGM but :effort:...
Delete:/
As far as the circles go when I looked through my fave lists I realised EastNewSound, Liz Triangle, C-CLAYS, Sound Online, Syrufit and IOSYS seem to be the most common names to show up. Ofc ENS 'mixes have a habit of not sounding all that much like the originals and the IOSYS "crazy awesome" stuff doesn't make for good background tracks, but "never mind the bollocks" as the man said since they're great anyway. :D
Noise, punk, hippie rock, grindcore, dub (not the dubstep crap) and oldies (1910's-40's).. mostly.
ReplyDeleteI would love a survey about what players are doing while playing Wot.
ReplyDeleteI for example watch Tv shows like The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad in a
foreign language. So I educate myself while playing wot!
Could you please use a different colour for your polls? You can hardly read the % results.
ReplyDeleteCan't, sorry, the design is very basic.
DeleteI agree with Franky change paint to black perhaps and metal rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhiSgXz_l20
I listen to classic rock bands... Linking Park, Seether, Adema, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Limp Bizkit, Shinedown, 30 Seconds to Mars..
ReplyDelete"classic rock bands"
DeleteI don't think ~10 years old qualifies something as "classic".
I had trouble fitting in my musical tastes - some people consider Simple Minds punk, some consider it new wave, some consider it rock.
ReplyDeleteStill, nothing like some Murder Story while barreling towards your next victim in your ~100 ton rape train.
- IllustriousBMG
15 percent of players listen also to something else (what?).
ReplyDeleteThat 'what?' in my case is talk-radio or online audio-tape during the day. When I play in the evening the TV is usual turned on.
I can't stand the music-radio. 1st I need to listen to the 10 most sold songs, then the 10 most popular, then the 10 most asked for, the 10 most liked and then,,, then I good damn need to listen to the 10 most played songs, again.
I listed as other because so often when I was on WOT, I would either be watching some movie/TV show or would be on TS/skype.
ReplyDeletealso, hip hop isn't all that bad, it's rap that needs to be brought out behind the shed. I don't listen to it, but hip hop is music that tells a story or has a moral, rap is "all 'bout the bitches and hos yuh gangsta' yo" (god I hate myself for saying that) or at least this was how it was explained to me by someone studying music (if some of those collections of noise can be called that).
