This is a 100 ton heavy tank, designed by Hideo Iwakuro, known as the "Iwakuro tank". Armed with a 105mm cannon. Twice as big as the KV-1, this monster is speculated (with high probability) to appear around tier 6 in the Japanese heavy line (another version with a 150mm cannon was confirmed by SerB also). Do not mistake it however with the O-I, this is NOT the O-I, that came later.
Edit: Kankou provided the armor values and cannon info:
75mm front, 35mm sides (with possibly another 75mm + 35mm plate bolted on it, eg. 150mm front, 70mm sides - but I doubt that will make it to tier 5-6)
Cannon: Type 92, 120mm penetration at 100m
And this is lowtier stuff. Imagine what monsters await us around tier 10... :)

but a landship at Tier 6 HOORAY!!! I'm a Little sad about the
110 ton Char (de tracteur 1940 or so) was kicked out of the French techtree at Tier 6 (Yes I know that the tree still shows it, but it was just a sloppy attempt of WGN to not get bugged about the new French trees, so they removed them and gave us the old and certainly obsolete tree back.

DeleteNot really, Both in real life and ingame, Tigers were prefarably used at longer ranges, putting that german gun accuracy to use, not to mention it was a priority target if spotted, not a good idea whn the enemy has aerial superiority :)

I don't think the above can be considered free experience, especially since the Iwakuro Tank was faster than the Churchills.
Slow tanks dont work in WoT you should know that by now. At 100t it doesnt matter what kind of an engine it has, it will be slow as hell.

Anyways they're a LOT smaller than this thing ergo not nearly the same degree of "arty bait", and I'm going to be rather surprised if those sub-turrets don't basically result in Weakspots Galore - this was a noted problem of such multiturret layouts IRL, after all.

ReplyDeleteThat would be incorrect and slightly racist. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Japans tanks, the ones that saw service, were pathetic. That and the fact that there were very few made. Japan and the islands that battles happened on in WWII weren't very good areas for tanks... The drawings are interesting, but they never hit the battlefield. There is a huge difference between stuff that's on paper and a King Tiger, IS-3 or Panther... Those being masterpieces of tank design which proved themselves not just on the drawing board with a series of numbers, but on the battlefield.

Funny how the above is being more "racist". The Japanese tanks that saw service were among the best when they were introduced. There was simply no need to upgrade until the last years of the war.
DeleteIt's a fair enough argument that already due to logistical considerations the Japanese didn't really have too much need for tanks nevermind now cutting-edge ones - but that hardly alters the fact that by anything other than like early-mid Thirties standards what they had in service were kinda objectively shit as tanks.
DeleteThat's sort of like arguing the Zulu army was "good enough" for its circumstances which is, indeed, true enough as such; but it ceased to be that more or less the second the Brits appeared on the scene. The same pattern can be readily repeated for the Chinese warlord armies of the period (which managed to give the Japanese a fair bit of trouble anyway despite their endless list of crippling shortcomings) and any number of other "big fishes of small ponds" that got pretty much facerolled once someone brought *serious* fighting power to the table.

It's about time to see some slow and heavy armored tank lines, after a long time, when there was only more and more modern post-war designs, which emphasized on speed and firepower.

The KV-5 is better armoured all-round at 100 t, has a powerful engine and it has a better gun.

The power-plant was two 550 HP engines; 1100 combined HP. That is one reason why it is so big; two engines.
DeleteAnother reason why it is so big is to accommodate the secondary turrets and their crew. The crew was 11 men.

Also, the 100 tons is with the 150 front armor and 70 side armor configuration. Prior to the armor plate add-ons (75 for the front, 35 for the side), the tank would still be large but lighter, a wild guess would be 80 tons. Kankou suggested having the lighter version as tier 5 and the fully armored one for tier 6. A good idea I think.
Lastly, yes, overall the tank design is quite bad. Very inefficient use of weight, useless mini turrets, virtually impractical suspension due to it`s weight. But...that aside, just by taking the massive behemoth for what it is, an appropriate tier can be found for any tank, including this monster. And those tiers would be tier 5 and tier 6.

hope they add this to tier6, i like to hear all the op whining and its a great addition to the kv1s which really needs a competitor at his tier, anyone saying this tank is op is just dumb, this thing is a huge target to hit, if they cant hit a barn from the inside they need to deinstall the game
