- the situation with the alleged premium account buff got complicated, Storm debunked SerB's information that thee will be PA buffs. Confusing.
- all the armor calculations are done server-side
- there is a chance the Leopard 1 will be made lower (historically, according to Storm, it should be 2400mm tall, at this moment in game it's 2480mm tall)
- as previously reported by FTR, 8.5 has been confirmed for Thursday on RU server, which means EU/US will follow possibly next week Tuesday/Wednesday.
On the topic of 8.6 arties, I tried to get into the bottom of them, whether they are historical and if yes, what can we expect. The Soviet one is historical, it's one of the SU-14 prototypes (SU-14-1). According to some hints I have read on RU forum, it might be implemented below the SU-14 itself and have worse weaponry. It was stated it won't be faster or more maneuverable.
The German one is still as far as I can tell a fake. There IS a source, Guderian himself mentions an "Elefant" with a 210mm mortar, but no other reputable sources (Doyle, Spielberger) mention any project like that I think. What I think happened is - as it did many times in history - someone confused two Elefants. You see, the name "Elefant" was used (officially) for the improved Ferdinand tank destroyers... but also (unofficially) for a Czechoslovak 220/210mm mortar project GrW 69 "Elefant", which had nothing to do with the Porsche Elefant chassis, it was just a name (credits go to Zarax for making me aware of this). The Elefant mortar was bored 210mm, Wargaming's GW Elefant is equipped with a 210mm mortar... see where I am going?
Someone somewhere (maybe even Guderian himself) possibly confused the Elefant mortar and Elefant tank destroyer and gained impression there was supposed to be a mortar mounted ON the Elefant chassis. Such confusion is not uncommon after all, we have many cases where someone made something up or got confused and it stuck and it is even commonly used now, despite being unhistorical (examples: Jagdpanzer 38t called "Hetzer", M36 called Jackson and so on).
The French one - nothing is known. I asked several people, known to know stuff about French vehicles (notably Souroy via Okinoshima), noone has heard of a Batchat artillery based on M47 Patton chassis.
What does 'PA buff' means?
ReplyDeleteAh, Premium Account
DeleteThanks.
Premium Account buff
ReplyDeleteInstaed of buffing PA, they could just make it cheaper... well, no its WG
ReplyDeleteThat wouldn't make sense. You've just sold plenty of premium account as by the 2nd anniversary deal. To then de-value these bonuses would be something that could be considered "evil". If you do it in 6 months? Acceptable. But straight away is just evil.
Deletethe PA price is the market standard and even cheaper you got 3000g on NA server per 14.95 then you use 2500 per month and you got other 500g to spend in whatever you want and in other games you have to pay 14.95 just to play or to get premium benefits
DeletePaying the same and getting less does make sense though? wierd...
Deleteso paying 14.95 per a month and 500g and in other games payig 14.95 per a month is getting less? that is the real no sense mr anon
DeleteSo WG is running out of ideas and making fake tanks now when WoT still doesnt have iconic tanks like the Firefly or Sturmtiger. Joy.
ReplyDeleteSturmtiger isn't anywhere near iconic. It's a bit obscure if anything.
DeleteAlso very stupid.
Sure, the only tank in history killing three others with only one round is not iconic...
DeleteSturmTiger is `iconic`, in the same way the Maus or JagdTiger are inconic, those are trully unique vehicles which are ``one of a kind``, not the avg mainstream *stuff* like T34 or M4 or stuff like stug, SU-100 or firefly.
Delete"A curiosity" is very much not the same thing as "an icon" you know.
DeleteAnd if you want to be nitpicky about it that thing's strictly speaking not even a tank.
at least sturmtiger was tested and fielded unlike the fantasy tanks WG is coming up with.
DeleteHow TERRIBLY relevant. And remind me again, just how many E-series tanks *were* built and tested...?
DeleteFor the premium account, they have a lot of options.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a "loaner" premium tank which you have while you have a premium account? Then your premium runs out the tank vanishes from your garage.
Equipment discounts for premium players?
Longer specials?? Hmm not a fan of that one but it's an idea.
It' needs to be something to smooth and speed up progress in the game, not something which makes you a uber killing machine with an unfair advantage...
"What about a "loaner" premium tank which you have while you have a premium account? Then your premium runs out the tank vanishes from your garage."
DeleteHow do you imagine the crew of such "loaner" to work? Lol.
Simply crew of the same nation and type. If crewed when your premium runs out they just go to your barracks.
Delete1 Too complex to implement, arguable usefulness.
Delete2 Non-premium players will whine.
3 Specials are already 3 days long and held 4 times in a month.
Any idea what the tech trees will look like for 8.6 arties?
ReplyDeleteTier 8's will go to tier 10, but will all tier 7's go to tier 9?
-Griff
nvm just looked at http://ftr-wot.blogspot.com/2013/04/86-new-tanks-summary.html
Delete:facepalm:

Y'all should do some articles about tanks like the "Hetzer" and the "Jackson" so us more ignorant folk can learn a little more about what they really are. I'm sure it's been discused ad nauseum elsewhere, but lots would enjoy reading about that sort of thing I'm sure. Maybe it'll be fun even?
ReplyDeleteNot much to say beyond what was said in the Operation Think Tank really: Hetzer was never called Hetzer, it was called Jagdpanzer 38t, the name Hetzer belonged to one of the light E-series tank destroyers and only unofficially, it got mixed up after the war. The name Jackson was AFAIK made up in the 60's by some modellers, because they thought it was cool. The_Chieftain wrote about this on his blog on US WoT server too.
DeleteAin't the Jackson-Slugger thing the way "Jackson" was official name for it, but it was massively called "Slugger", and this name sticked to it? I think I read sth about it then they changed the name of M36...
DeleteNo, both are made up. It was never called Jackson nor Slugger officially. Not sure where Slugger comes from, but Jackson was made up by modellers.
Deletelol, I love the blatant denial.
DeleteChieftain: "Here's a US Army document dated 1944 calling the M36 the Jackson."
SS: "No."
Referring to Chieftain, and saying something opposite to what hi wrote...
Deletehzero: Source? Because during Operation Think Tank, Zaloga (I believe it was) said the total opposite.
Delete'SS, you are wrong as usual :)'
DeleteF*ck off.
Well I haven't seen The_Chieftain's post. It's nice that he found some obscure paper on that it was in fact intended to be named as such (mind you, the people who have been calling it the Jackson from the 60's didn't know about this document) - I just repeated what I heard on the Operation Think Tank. New info came up - fine, I stand corrected.
DeleteDoesn't change the fact I am usually right and if you think I am not, why the hell do you read what I post anyway? Just fuck off.
>Doesn't change the fact I am usually right and if you think I am not, why the hell do you read what I post anyway? Just fuck off.
DeleteA lot of people find your arrogance quite amusing.
I am lucky not to give a crap about that lot of people then, am I not? :)
DeleteBasically what happened with the Jackson name thing is that one very good modeling company researcher (for Hasegawa I think) found that info. But after the kit was produced no one else, not even the professional military historians talking with military members, could find it and everyone decided they made it up to fit the theme of US armored vehicles (other than SPGs) being named after generals. This view persisted at the time of the Operation Think Tank meeting.
DeleteAfter that meeting the Chieftain decided to dig into the naming conventions and origins a bit more, in the process he finally found the document first listing the M36 as the Jackson. During the war even! Clearly the name never entered general use though.
The origin of the M10 being called the Wolverine is still being tracked down to the best of my knowledge. My guess is the Canadians.
Relax SS, I was just teasing you. (-: I love the blog and will keep reading, even if you do get uptight and tell me to fuck off.
DeleteAs I understand the document, it expresses a desire to have naming conventions for all the vehicles - and its clear from the post war confusion that the official name they wanted in that document, the Jackson, didn't actually stick.
In that sense I guess, you are both right. It was the official namde and nobody was using it regularly until far after the war.
Well, the "fuck off" was meant for that scrub anon. Probably some random "pubbie", as the Americans like to say.
DeleteAs for the name - I can admit when I am wrong and clearly, The_Chieftain did further and more research on that topic.
From my source that i use for french tanks , the only hint i get , is that the normal batchat 155 chassis looks similar to the M47 one that the french army used in that time . (1950 CHAR M 47 PATTON )
ReplyDelete- there is a chance the Leopard 1 will be made lower (historically, according to Storm, it should be 2400mm tall, at this moment in game it's 2480mm tall)
ReplyDelete____________________________________________________________________
SerB said this even before 2nd test server, so i was hoping it will be changed in second but it didn't...why not is the real question...i thought they found out they were wrong and the Leo was "historically accurate" but obviously it isn't and i am glad that for a change they addmit it and trying to fix it...will see what will happen...
It's 8 cm. EIGHT. Does it really matters so much?
DeleteHe a german cry kid... for him it doesnt matter if it matters, he just wants to cry and shout russian-bias
DeleteWarmagi, well you see, for some people, 8cm is all they have, if you know what I mean.
Delete> The French one - nothing is known. I asked several people, known to know stuff about French vehicles (notably Souroy via Okinoshima), noone has heard of a Batchat artillery based on M47 Patton chassis.
ReplyDelete"Le train de roulement est similaire à celui du M 47 alors en dotation dans l'armée française."
http://www.chars-francais.net/new/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=41
That is the Batchat arty we have in game already. It uses M47-like suspension, not the entire M47 hull.
DeleteStill dont get it... that they havent use one of Zarax´s suggestions? http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/1-Vehicles/Axis/1-Germany/05-Sturmpanzers/Bar/Bar.htm
ReplyDeleteThe also could use one of the thousand Panther models:
-Gerät 5-1528 (s.F.H. 43 (Sfl.) Kp. I), Tarnbezeichnung Heuschrecke 15
-Gerät 5-1211 (12,8 cm K 43 (Sfl.) Kp. I), Tarnbezeichnung Heuschrecke 12
-s.F.H. 43 (Sfl.) Kp. II, Tarnbezeichnung Grille 15
-12,8 cm K 43 (Sfl.) Kp. II, Tarnbezeichnung Grille 12
both Grille´s... are version of the Heuschrecke... to be more precisely a further development as can be seen in the name: Kp. I= Krupp I and Kp. II Krupp II.
-Gerät 5-1530 (sFH 43 (Sfl) RhB), Tarnbezeichnung Skorpion
-Gerät 5-1213 (128mm K (Sfl) Rhb), Tarbezeichnung Skorpion
All can be found in Spileberger page ~226
Later 44 you will even find absetzbare türme (turrets which could be deployed as a pillbox; like the Heuschreck 10); the so call: Sfl mit absetzbarer s.F.H. 18 (http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/Site.htm)
Even the STURMPANZER BÄR (with a smaller caliber mörser would make more sense (something like a 21mm sort barrel mörsers); as Tier VI (http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/Site.htm).
Your,
Staufen
Sorry the links are broken and/or I have copy the wrong ones.... you can find Zarax suggestion here in this blog (look in the older blog posts)....
DeleteAs for the panthers... on the "drawing" page, as well as the Strumpanzer Bär.
Bar as tier 6 is a horrible idea.
DeleteSorry typo. I meant IX. Thats happen when you write and do something else.
Delete>- there is a chance the Leopard 1 will be made lower (historically, according to Storm, it should be 2400mm tall, at this moment in game it's 2480mm tall)
ReplyDeleteIt is already 2400 to the turret roof. 2480 to the hatches roof.
> The Soviet one is historical, it's one of the SU-14 prototypes (some sources claim SU-14-1, some SU-14-2).
ReplyDeleteSoviet one is SU-14-1, SU-14-2 = SU-14 with superstructure.
I've seen a Russian site that has it vice versa, that's why I said both theories, I am not sure myself.
DeleteSU-14-1/2 - fits perfectly.
DeleteHere it is:

book "Отечественные бронированные машины 1905-1941 (Russian armored vehicles 1905-1941)"
Not better SU-14 cabrio?
DeleteThank you, I will correct it.
Deletepeople ask for gun accuracy on the move+ slightly better rof for Leo 1 and we get a micronic size buff. Wow GG WG!!
ReplyDeleteThis game would go to hell if WG did everything that players whine about.

Because the devs have always been in the habit of discussing conclusions drawn from the test servers in Q&A's in the first place, amirite guise?
Hello,ok the 8.5 is coming and y have a question for you about that;
ReplyDeleteThe VK 3002 DB keeps the experience from 8.4 or it will be erased?
Thank you
Yes, 30.02DB will keep all the experience acquired so it is possible to grind for the new Indien Panzer already now.
