A few points regarding this blog

Hello everyone,

I feel it necessery to address several questions I get asked a lot (only yesterday I recieved cca 120 e-mails, thanks for all of them guys, it's much appreciated, I will dig thru them and respond to every single one eventually).

Translations:

Translations will continue as they did until now. However, there is something I'd like to address: I have nothing against people translating the stuff I write to other languages, but I do not wish that the english tranlation gets copied to official Wargaming forums straight from the blog. There are three reasons for it. First and foremost, I really don't want to see that Ectar coming in that thread I built and gloating about "a lot of helpful content". I see no reason why Wargaming should profit in any way from what I do. At least not anymore.

Second reason is that the translations are often unclear and sometimes require additional explanations for people to understand the background. I can't obviously do that on the forums anymore, I can do it here. Third reason would be me liking to know how many people actually read my stuff and where are they from in general. Don't worry, I won't profit on that in any way, there are no ads here.

I cannot enforce this wish in any way, that much is clear, but you'd do me a favour if you helped me out here. After all, it's not that big of a deal checking the blog instead of that thread, right? Yes I know it's now banned to link my blog in general. Soviet Union style!

Leaks:

Well, I am here in a bit of a pickle. I have some interesting stuff here - also some pretty ugly stuff. But I am currently waiting for response from perhaps the single person in Wargaming I actually still respect (well, not entirely true, there are more people I respect to be honest - Chieftain and Challenger come to mind) and I kinda promised I'd stay away from the leaks to him. We'll see how everything goes.

Aaaaaaaaanyway...

Have a nice evening
SS

  1. You had a strong blog before the leaks came along. If they are no longer a part of what you write about, it is no great loss. Do what you think is best.

  3. Hi,
first of all, you are doing a great job with your blog, so keep it up.
Second of all, you actually can do something against people copying your stuff to the official WoT forums and with this post you just did, as the translation is your work and you have the copyright to it. So in the worst case you are able to sue anyone who is doing so ;-)

  4. About the ads i wouldn't mind if you add some, afterall writting this blog takes some time. I believe lots of people (including me) would disable ad-blocker for your page.

    1. Some google style text based ads would be perfect, I think. Not very intrusive, yet still somewhat revenue generating.
      As for their location...
      Perhaps below the "pageviews" counter?

3 I actually remeber the last reason they banned my original account for. When they made the Type-59 available for a few days again (Long ago). I typed: ''Fuck this'' in the official thread = Ban (~1000 posts)

4 MagicHaxTurtle- Make second account and do the same. Post in all my threads that they will no longer be updated (~80 posts). Threat to ban my ingame account.

5 i486DX- Make third account. Banned for posting "Fuck this" in a similar (#1) official thread (~1700 posts)

6 VGK- Make forth account (I actually had that one since 2011). Cant remeber what they banned me for (50 posts)

Now we need to get your blog somehow known..because the mods WILL take any slightest notice of your blog down.
and if this happens, you probably need to somehow be able to run the blog at first place, I don't mind if there are some ads to finance your blog.

This will peak curiosity, create more talking among players, thus more publicity for WoT.

Trust me, im a marketing guy.

  10. I have often been selectively cut and pasted the portions of your translations which related to be threads such as some tanks or a line of tanks to a nation. Not the whole blog you understand but just like
"and from the Q+A with Russian devs we have:
    - Soviet tanks will now be made of cheese"
    kind of thing.

I will paraphrase your updates in future. Sorry.

    Thanks for the translating.

  12. What was it that Ectar said then?

As far as I've known him he's been quite respectable. At least compared to some other mods.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I saw Overlord exchanging messages with you in his blog, so my guess is that he asked you not to post leaks? Did he ask not to disclose anything in general or gave you some freedom in the future?

(now excuse me, but I just have to geek out):
Forumite1: Why is he banned, bro?
Forumite2: Because they have to censor him.
Forumite1: He didn't post anything wrong.
Forumite2: Because he's the poster our forum deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll ban him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a Silent Stalker, an epic forum poster. A Black Prince.

    *dramatic music*

    1. Actually it was about something else, but yes, not posting leaks is a part of it. I am not at liberty to discuss it for now, I'll leave that to Overlord :)

      Delete
    2. "not at liberty to discuss"

      ...

Now, on a purely theoretical and speculative basis, if, say, WG offered you a place in their midsts, an employment, if you will, you wouldn't be at liberty to discuss it, right? It's all speculative and theoretical, so please, just give your most speculative and theoretically possible answer to this possible situation.

...they did offer you a gig, didn't they?

      Delete
    3. Nope, they didn't, even though that would be pretty hilarious :) Come on, let's be realistic. I made fare too much mess for that.

    4. A man can dream, can't he?

You could be a great community manager. ...that is until power corrupted you and you installed your own draconian rules.

As for my previous post, I had in mind more of a participation in some project of theirs to some extent, rather than a job, paid or not. That's the only logical reason in my head why you can't discuss it, others are just varying degrees of silly.

      Delete
    5. No, I'd be extremely bad moderator and community organizer. I am capricious by nature, I anger quickly and I am generally a vengeful person. I can't afford to be that in my line of work, so I sort of "save" it for the virtual world, which is not a good thing.

      Delete
    6. Description fits majority of forum moderators (in any forum there is). Anyway, if you say so. My opinion is of course biased, as I judge purely by content you provide to the community while knowing nothing of your personal character.

  18. I think you are inconsistent in your blog. At times you call out the hate of one community to another yet you attack a person and call him "fat twat". With this you are becoming the person you don't approve of. Pepole reading your blog will think that person is someone to hate, regardles if he deserves it or not.

Blog has a bright future,b/c it will draw ppl as one of places those WG muppets cannot censor.
I can understand their move few days ago,but this is your site, and they will moderate their not-even-half-interesting-forum (all honours to the exceptions like ding760,tyutyu etc) the way they did...
I believe that ads wouldn`t be a problem to readers,u have mentioned earlier smthng about it...

  29. Hey SS,

I check your blog every day because it's much better suited for finding news than to sort through the WG forum cluster.

I appreciated the leaks but only because it gives a bit of an oversight on what to expect in the future, while I understand that leaked content could be canceled at any time by WG.

Either way, I appreciate what you do and will keep checking every day no matter if you choose to post leaks or not.

Either way, people give Silentstalker stuff. It's not like he forces them to. And if wants to share some of it (I'm sure he doesn't share everything for various reasons) with us then I'm fine with that.

IF WG doesn't want info leaked (which is logical) then they need to find a solution.

  33. Really I think you should just stick it to the man; Post whatever you want to post wether it be translations or leaks and take it on the chin like you have.

Or has WG really gotten to you with this forum ban?
Why are things different now then back then?

In all honesty I think this place is a better read then the countless of "OMG NERF ARTY" - "FUCK NOOBS NEED SKILL MM" and - "ZOMG KV-1S IS OP NEED NERF" posts on the forums.

I've taken a 3 point warning, 7 day RO ban to the face for (In a if I do say so funny way) advertising your blog so you make it worth it to read!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've only been reading your blog for a few days and it's still the best thing news-wise I've discovered for WoT. Please continue.

It certainly beats trawling through the forums for the latest news (or any news for that matter :)) about World of Tanks.

I can't understand why they handle 'Specials' for weekends so badly...put up the monthly calendar and tell us *exactly* what the bonus and discounts will be for the following weekends...this way at least the players can plan ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Actually it is hilarious, as only guy providing relevant dev information for EU comunity is banned on official forums, while he was doing the job there WG employees should do... Absurd of the year so far.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, he did not have to leak things not yet added to the game, and everything would be fine and dandy.

I doubt Macdonald's or Microsoft or EA, or Any other company would enjoy someone leaking "secret" stuff on official forums.

That Posting leaks on the forum should be forgiven because of translating dev-posts, is not likely. Regardless of the fact that most players feel WG-EU should prioritize such a thing.

EU forum sucks in comparison with RU, when you search for some - even small - news about new patches.

And I understand that some things may come later or they will not be in game ever. But I am simply interested such Q&A and new stuff which can come.

    1. Hello Johnny;

SEA and EU are two completely differently run servers. Each server has their own management style, and is run independantly.
On SEA, the management has a meh attitude on this blog. Linking the Q/A stuff is completely legal, the blog yeah, legal.

The leaks are technically illegal, but so is WTF, GTFO and STFU. Mind you, if it changes, I'll end up smacking them.

You'll also need to remember that beyond the individual policies (Not to say SEA isn't strict. I have to warn for saying fuck and shit, where NA does not), EU also has a history with SS. He's been banned before. He's a local. On SEA, I mentioned him in skype to response of 'who?'.

      Hope this clears things up.
